All internships are paid, full-time work experiences. The Zayo internship program begins on June 8* and formally ends on August 14*, 2020 (*start/end date flexible to academic obligations).
Position Description
The Solution Engineering (“SE”) Intern will be primarily engaged with assisting the SE Organization with the execution of strategic initiatives for the organization, including the refresh and reorganization of critical documentation and tools used by the SEs, as well as the continued development of the SE Onboarding Program. The Intern will also be exposed to the standard day-to-day work of an SE and will be given the opportunity to assist in the performance of design, costing and documentation creation on live opportunities.
An effective individual in this role is someone who can perform in sales but is interested in a technical role. The intern will develop a background in the ins-and-outs of the SE position, including a working knowledge of Zayo’s standard products and network assets. The role is both technically-oriented and customer-centric, requiring both technical and business savviness. A background in telecommunications is helpful, but an eagerness to learn and engage with technically-oriented material is more critical.
Responsibilities
Compile and organize documentation and resources of greater assistance to the SE Organization across several key strategic projects
Aid in the buildout of the SE Onboarding Program
Work with SE leaders on reporting functionality to help track performance of teams and individuals across critical metrics
Assist with basic solution design and costing
Create supplementary documentation for solutions in support of other SEs
Additional tasks as required to support Solution Engineers and Solution Engineering leaders
Qualifications
Studying/degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Telecom or related major
Previous internship or employment experience in a technical environment a plus
Drive and urgency to achieve success, especially in a deal-oriented environment, combined with an interest in Sales
Possess strong organizational and communicative skills, including oral, written, and listening
Familiarity with telecommunications concepts a plus
Proficiency with critical software systems like Google Earth, Microsoft Visio and Google Docs preferred
Possess a technical orientation with the type of drive and personality expected in a sales individual, and eagerness to expand their knowledge base
