Under supervision, the Intern, Manufacturing Automation Engineer will work directly with engineers, technicians, manufacturing and quality functions, and will assist in the Design, develop, of automation and control systems, equipment, and machinery.   This position will assist in efforts to transition from manual or semi-automated processes to automated processes and smart factory manufacturing

 

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

  • Assist in Optimizing existing automated and partially automated processes to improve quality, efficiency, throughput, and cost
  • Seek and qualify novel technologies, and if appropriate, validate and integrate to manufacturing site/production processes
  • Contribute to the development of process automation to new product and product enhancement programs, coordinating and integrating specialized processes into a lean manufacturing environment
  • Contribute to the Design, development, and implementation process automation (hardware & software) to improve productivity, quality, equipment performance, energy consumption, and downtime reduction
  • Design and programming of new custom equipment and equipment modifications
  • Work closely with Automation Engineering and other Engineers on process and programing issues
  • Program, troubleshoot and repair of automation equipment as necessary
  • Create and maintain documentation associated with custom equipment
  • Proficient in SolidWorks 3D CAD to create fixturing and production support systems
  • Perform other duties as required and directed by Mechanical Engineering Manager

 

Experience and Education

Required Knowledge:                 

  • Working towards a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related degree.                                  

Required Knowledge:                     

  • Must have the ability to scale “ideal-practices” to fit within the budget and headcount constraints of a small company
  • Superb computer skills and demonstrated proficiency in a C# programming
  • Demonstrated propensity to build, assemble, and fix things (including programmed solutions)
  • Familiar with and able to use common hand tools and diagnostic tools such as multi-meters
  • Support multiple projects while handling multiple tasks in order to successfully meet deadlines. 
  • Manage small projects as required.  Document and communicate project status, changes and other information to managers, engineers and technicians.
  • Exposure to microcontrollers, programming, binary and digital logic & analog circuits

  • Strong aptitude with computers, software and data analysis
  • Ability to take direction, complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and learn new principles, ideas & concepts
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work on multiple tasks
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

 

 

Hiring Salary Range:  Compensation to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, alignment with market data and internal pay scales. Hourly compensation $15.75 to $24.75
