VP, Talent Development
Department Summary
DISH is currently looking for a Vice President, Talent Development to lead a national HR team. Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the VP of Talent Development will be responsible for the centralized teams that provides leadership development, talent management, selection and assessment programs, and culture and inclusion programs for a nationwide workforce of 15,000. Additionally, the role will have a key responsibility in building and delivering the Talent Lifecycle programs for the entire population.
This role will have key focus areas involving:
CULTURE
- Responsible for acting as culture keeper for DISH's core values of Curiosity, Pride, Adventure and Winning.
- Recruits, educates, motivates, and rewards leaders and employees displaying behaviors consistent with DISH culture; this includes focusing on the culture during the recruiting efforts, performance management, leadership development, and rewards and recognition.
ADVOCACY
- Promotes an HR environment that balances the needs of employees, shareholders, and customers.
- Leads engagement planning and plan execution, builds strong relationships with employees and leaders to be the voice of the employee when developing HR strategy and guidelines, accountable for communicating to employees and leaders to drive commitment to HR, employee, and business initiatives.
LEADERSHIP
- Accountable for increasing the capabilities of the HR Talent Development team, in support of the broader HR organization.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior HR and leadership regarding leadership and talent lifecycle strategies to support the business growth and direction.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Assessments and Selection Practices
- Support development of our corporate and department-level assessments strategy including pre-hire, promotion-based and developmental assessments.
- Work closely with HR leadership team and external assessment partners to support selection, design and validation projects.
- Optimize our assessment suite to help select and position talent.
Talent Lifecycle
- Assist with the continuous improvement and administration of our performance appraisal, talent/succession planning process and web-based system.
- Drive the framework of the company's OKR and Goal Setting process.
- Use our talent planning system to identify potential talent within DISH for open positions and assist with succession plan development efforts.
- Design new methods to sustain the talent process to develop and share talent within and across teams. Identify emerging capability needs and facilitate process with Recruiting and leadership team to develop or acquire key capabilities.
Employee Engagement
- Serve as a subject matter expert on our engagement survey, system and database to support our survey administration, research requests and the action planning process.
- Work with individual leaders and departments in conjunction with the HR Advisors to help create action plans based on Employee Engagement Survey data.
- Support projects and assignments as needed to support overall employee engagement improvement efforts .
Leadership Development
- Manages and continuously improves the organizational strategy and supporting programs to help recruit, develop and retain our future generation of leaders.
- Conducts needs analyses and works with managers to determine emerging business trends, skill needs and corresponding training and development strategies.
- Partners with HR Advisors to provide effective OD coaching to executives and managers to drive measurable business and organizational improvement.
- Formulate training strategies, programs, and schedules, based on knowledge of identified training needs, company production processes, business systems, or changes in products, procedures, or services.
- Select appropriate instructional procedures or methods to maximize skill development such as individual education, group instruction, self-study, webinars, case studies, simulation exercises, role play and course curriculum.
- Select and certify facilitators in effective techniques for training and organizational development to ensure a strong L&OD team is in place across the organization.
- Help build informal teams to build linkage between various field and HQ training design and development organizations to ensure consistent communication and alignment where appropriate.
- Assess, counsel, and recommend employees for participation in internal or external educational and training programs.
- Compile data and analyze past and current year training requirements to evaluate ROI and prepare budgets and justify funds requested.
Skills, Experience and Requirements
Ideal Candidate Has:
- 15+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, with at least 5 years at an executive level. A bachelor's degree in business, or equivalent experience.
- Post-graduate level degree in Human Resources or Industrial and Organizational Psychology is preferred.
- Experience in an operations environment is strongly preferred.
- A proven track record within multiple HR disciplines: employee advocacy, employee relations, leadership development, and recruiting experience are most critical.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to communicate effectively and influence with all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
- Ability to stand firm and remain committed when necessary and facilitate discussion and understanding when difficult decisions must be made and executed.
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, depending on business demands.
Salary Range
Compensation: $175,000.00/Year - $225,000.00/Year
