Your Mission

Establish Pie as the leading commercial insurer among small business owners by supporting the people at Pie to perform at their best. You will also partner with our business leaders to ensure best in class HR practices are being followed.

How You’ll Do It

Pie believes in the power of human potential. Hiring, empowering, supporting and retaining amazing talent is core to our ability to serve the small business community. You will have a direct and enormous impact on Pie’s ability to scale our people operations and, therefore, our business.

Whether It’s Right For You

Pie’s People and Talent teams work out of both Denver and DC, but don’t let the geographical divide fool you. This incredibly collaborative team is in tight, constant communication. Sitting in Denver, you will be a trusted partner to our VP of People and Talent and will work across the leadership team as we scale to 200+ team members by the end of 2020. This position will require some travel between Denver and DC and possibly to other locations.

You will be joining our team in downtown Denver, specifically LoDo, within walking distance from Union Station. Everything we do is connected, but we each have different roles. That means we need you to bring strong in-house recruiting leadership experience with an inclination toward high-growth scaling through process, sourcing and technology. We also need you to be willing and able to balance running daily operations with special projects. We are a start-up. All hands and minds are needed.

Our team is looking for an experienced HR Business Partner. We expect you’ll bring at least 6 years' of experience in an HRBP role. Having previous experience working in a high-growth, venture-backed startup would be ideal in this position. Of course, you’ll also need certain skills and abilities to do the work.

The Right Stuff

  • HR Business Partner Expertise. 6 years' of experience working in a HR Business Partner role with a specialization in organizational development and compensation planning/strategies.
  • Compensation Management. You have experience with all facets of compensation. (Experience with Option Impact or Option Driver a plus.)
  • Organizational Development. You understand and can see the bigger picture of how an organization fits together. How can we develop and enhance our employee engagement through development opportunities for our employees.
  • Strategic Partnership. Partner with hiring leaders to understand their organizational objectives and drive team member on-boarding, engagement and performance management to ensure objectives are met
  • Planning. Strategic thinking in a huge benefit in this role. As an HRBP you will need to help plan for our future growth. As we scale, we will encounter various challenges.
  • Process Orientation. You enjoy finding the opportunities to create, automate and improve processes to ensure the best delivery of people services.
  • Adaptability. You thrive when creating order from ambiguity and demonstrate experience successfully adapting to a dynamic environment where processes and priorities change quickly. You will also provide Pie employees with high touch support throughout their career at Pie.
  • Diplomacy. How do you handle and work with Pie employees at all levels? Are you able to give constructive feedback in a diplomatic way? These will be critical skills to have when coming into this role.
  • Data Driven: Acknowledgement of how a data driven approach can help us run our business more efficiently through the HR process.
  • Communication. We are a collaborative team that puts communication at the core of what we do. Building trusting relationships within and outside of the team through proactive communication and planning. We need you to be lighting fast with your responses because recruiting is a top priority for the future success of our business.

Working @ Pie

  • You expect to challenge others and to be challenged.
  • Your communication style is candid and compassionate.
  • You share your knowledge. We aren’t here to compete with one another; we are in it to win it, together.
  • You share our passion for the small business community.
