POSITION OVERVIEW

This position will be responsible for supervising all Payroll Processing and backing up the Payroll Manager including required filings and tax payments. This position will also be responsible to approve all instant check requests, audit reporting, and to complete regular training with the Payroll team. 

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Supervise all payroll processing operations.
  • Enhance, write and publish processes and procedures to streamline and continuously improve departmental processes and services.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance to all rules, regulations and internal processes for self and all Payroll Analysts.
  • An UltiPro subject matter expert that readily informs, communicates, and trains Payroll Analysts to ensure greater capability within UltiPro
  • Effectively collaborates with other departments to resolve GL or other processing problems.
  • Providing service excellence and support to Corporate HR and employees along with processing assigned payroll, as needed
  • Act as the primary accounting and banking contact to ensure proper GL reconciliation of payroll accounts
  • Approval of off cycle paychecks
  • Complete quarter and year end processing schedules along with review of final reports, as assigned by Payroll Manager
  • Acts as quality assurance tester for all payroll related changes made by the systems team.
  • Manage special projects such as workers comp, 401k and internal audits, as needed

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 

Experience:

  • 6+ years, multi-state payroll experience including taxes and garnishments, pay calculations, multi-state taxation rules, wage and hour laws and functional payroll processing.
  • Intermediate benefit knowledge, including taxation.
  • 2+ years Finance/Accounting knowledge or experience required. Ability to use query and report generation tools.
  • UltiPro Software experience required. Experience with financial systems a plus.
  • Prior payroll conversion experience with strong parallel testing experience helpful 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS 

Knowledge: 

  • Proficient in use of MS Excel, MS Access, Reporting and data validation
  • UltiPro or other cloud-based payroll software (Workday, Ceridian DayForce, SuccessFactors)
  • Strong knowledge of computer network systems and very comfortable in trouble-shooting issues/problems
  • Can teach basic manual payroll process from timecard calculations all the way through the GL accounting process.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with reconciliation, preparation and filing of all federal and state tax forms.

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. Able to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to lead others through influence, not direct-line authority.
  • Desire to mentor and teach Payroll Specialists.
  • Ability to effectively resolve conflict and maintain close and trusted working relationships.
  • Ability to work with the accounting and functional groups and senior management to collect, normalize and analyze data for financial & payroll reporting.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Tackles tough problems with firm deadlines
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment with high expectations and high service levels to the organization

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required
  • CPP or APA Certification Preferred
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred
