We are searching for an HR Business Partner

First off, what is DarkOwl? What does it do in the darknet?

The darknet is a scary place.  DarkOwl extracts and indexes data at scale from the darknet in live time, and provides a range of tools for our customers to search, monitor and analyze what is happening in the darknet that is relevant to them.  With the world’s largest database of darknet content, DarkOwl allows its customers---primarily other cybersecurity companies and law enforcement—to have “eyes on the darknet” safely and comprehensively 24/7.  We are growing quickly, and have plans to scale further.

What does this HR Business Partner do at DarkOwl?

The world needs more DarkOwls, and fewer bad guys.  At a time of great growth in this startup, you'll be responsible for working with the company’s leadership to build the team and the HR infrastructure necessary to take the company forward.  We are passionate about building high-performing teams, fostering a great and inclusive work environment, maintaining a great culture, and scaling this business.  You’ll be in at the ground floor of recruiting more team members, and creating a People infrastructure we can be proud of.  And fighting the bad guys.

What a Day In The Life of DarkOwl’s HR Business Partner Looks Like

  • You will help us identify, qualify and hire the right talent we need to scale.  The mix of skills we need is fairly unique, and in high demand.  Put bluntly: these candidates are hard to find.  But we are a work hard & play hard company, not to mention that what we do in the darknet is interesting and important. Recruiting is a big, big piece of this role.
  • Develop and implement world-class inhouse HR processes and policies.  We know about the darknet, not this stuff. Make us a better company than we already are as we get bigger.  Make us sustainable and scalable as an organization.
  • Help us maintain a culture that makes DarkOwl a great place to work.  We like our cooperative culture, but help us make it even better, more inclusive, more energetic and scalable.
  • Facilitate healthy feedback across the organization—make sure all our employees feel they have the ability to speak up, be heard, and be listened to.  We rely on our people to make us better.
  • Act as a trusted resource for all employees on any issue related to HR, compensation, benefits, policies, etc.  This is the important nuts and bolts stuff, but we want to do it well, efficiently and without pain to our employees.
  • Provide coaching on professional development and help us make every employee feel they have the ability to grow at DarkOwl.   While many companies don’t focus much on this, we think it is important and we want to.   We want people to look back on their time at DarkOwl and say “that was a company that cared about ME, and my development.  Wow.”
  • Ensure we are in compliance with all applicable HR laws---we are the good guys, and don’t want to do anything wrong.

What you bring to the table:

  • You need to have at least 5 years of experience in HR, preferably from a recruiting background (or at least significant experience in recruiting). Sorry-we don’t have the knowledge, resources, skill or time to train you---you will train us instead.
  • You will have excellent knowledge of world-class HR best practices, standards, policies and procedures---because we don’t.  That is why we are hiring you.
  • You will have enough emotional intelligence to be a culture guru, hand holder, coach and go-to-person if someone needs to talk/cry/engage. Your door needs to remain open at all times.
  • You will be organized, methodical and detail oriented.  It’s too important with too much going on here for you not to have this skillset, and we can’t keep track of it all for you.
  • You’ll understand the difference between dealing with technical folks and business folks, who often really don’t speak the same language (or really even inhabit the same planet at times….).
  • We like diversity, and for a tech company are reasonably diverse—but never enough.  Help make us more diverse.
  • You will be honest, a straight shooter, and your integrity must be unquestioned.  This one really is completely nonnegotiable.
  • You need to live in or around Denver and work from our office downtown---this role is too important to be remote.
  • Finally, you need to have experience with a startup.  We aren’t a Fortune 500 company (yet), and the craziness of a startup can drive big-company folks nuts.  We need you to hit the ground running.

What you DON’T need to bring to the table

  • We could care less what your educational background is or isn’t, as long as you hit the requirements above. Nor do we care what grades you got in school.
  • You don’t need to have any knowledge of cybersecurity, the darknet, or what the bad guys do on the darknet.  We’ll teach you.
  • Don’t bring your baggage about what your prior employer/s did/said/didn’t do.  Or your ex, for that matter. We are a young startup, and don’t have time to think about all that.  We care about you, our team and moving this business forward.

Why You Want To Work For DarkOwl

  • We have a great benefits package including:
  • Company paid medical/dental/vision
  • 401(k)
  • Free Eco Pass
  • Flexible Time Off policy – We try and give our folks time to recharge
  • Equity – We want everyone to benefit as we grow larger
