ABOUT MAXWELL

At Maxwell, our mission is to build enterprise software and services that empower people to make mortgage lending simpler and more accessible. Founded in 2015, our platform has grown to facilitate billions of dollars of mortgage volume for a growing network of lenders, service providers, real estate agents, and technology partners. We help lending teams work more efficiently and close loans 45% faster than the national average. We strive to make the lenders, and their employees, the real heroes who enable homeowners to achieve the American Dream.

Maxwell is based in beautiful Denver, Colorado and is backed by leading venture capital firms, including Techstars. Our world-class team of software experts and mortgage professionals work together and do whatever it takes to make each other successful. We’re privileged that our company has been recognized by HousingWire, Progress in Lending, MReport, and others as a leading innovator in our industry. At the end of the day, we are a company doing honest work that really matters in the real world -- one lender, one borrower, one homeowner at a time. And it works.

WHY ARE WE HIRING FOR THIS ROLE?

Maxwell is looking for a Director of People Operations. We have always placed the utmost value on our people and culture and that’s why we’re looking to add an experienced professional to be part of building this team. We are expanding our team rapidly, and we are looking for a leader to take charge of this effort to ensure we not only grow quickly, but also thoughtfully. This leader will be strategic and value long-term outcomes, and also wouldn’t think twice about rolling up their sleeves and tackling the most mundane of tasks when it needs to get done.

What’s more, people operations and culture takes on a whole new challenge as the “new norms” of work in a post-COVID work environment become reality. The person for this role will be ready to be creative about how the organization manages its people, sustains its culture and invests in development, whether the team is in a physical office or not. Above all, we need a leader who obsesses about culture and cares deeply about our people and their development.

HOW WILL YOU CONTRIBUTE?

You’ll manage key aspects of people operations: recruiting, onboarding, benefits, employee satisfaction, learning and development, retention, and compliance. Here are a few specifics in which you will be accountable:

  • Own hiring initiatives by creating a top notch candidate experience and developing the recruiting machine that attracts top talent to Maxwell
  • Ensure we have best practices in recruiting and hiring across the company, including work with our third-party recruiting partners
  • Ensure our ATS has clean and complete records of all candidates from sourcing, to interviews, to offers
  • Deliver a seamless onboarding program, including new hire records and compliance, new hire and first day experience, access management approvals, coordination, and tracking, and assisting with team specific training programs
  • Act as the day-to-day point of contact for all employee questions and ensure communication channels and materials are up-to-date and accessible to all employees, including employee handbook, benefits, and other policies and procedures
  • Utilize our HRIS to maintain audit-ready employee data and directory, and manage benefits, PTO, time tracking, onboarding, and terminations
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality in all matters relating to employee records and investigations
  • Ensure compliance with SOC2 and all applicable human resource federal and state laws and requirements; conducting investigations, and maintaining records
  • Partner with other team members across the entire organization on special projects, including budgeting and compensation, diversity and inclusion, performance management, and leadership and professional development
  • Educate leadership and the business on areas of risk and proactively solve issues that may arise as we scale
  • Monitor employee satisfaction and drive company-wide initiatives that increase satisfaction and productivity

HOW WILL YOU KNOW YOU ARE QUALIFIED?

You are an experienced People Operations professional with a clear track record in the field on your resume. You are looking for your next challenge and ready to put your leadership skills to the test. You believe your passion for values and culture, combined with your ability to execute, are what sets you apart from the People Operations people next door. Above all, you share our values of Rigor, Ownership, Curiosity, Kindness, and Straight-Up. For you to best succeed in this role, it is important that you have:

  • 6 to 10+ years of People Operations experience, preferably in a fast-growing software company, with at least 2 years experience leading a team a huge plus
  • Thorough knowledge of employment law, compensation best practices, organizational planning & development, and employee relations (CO state laws a must)
  • Proven track record of building and improving operational processes and procedures, including selecting and implementing new HR systems from scratch and for scale
  • Broad spectrum of interpersonal skills, ranging from warm/friendly communication, to the ability to mediate, negotiate, and creatively support employees at all levels
  • Demonstrated qualities of rolling up your sleeves to get things done and the kind of work ethic that would make your role model proud
  • Experience in strategic planning for hiring, retention, and organizational development
  • Creative and analytical problem solving skills. Ability to analyze data, understand trends, and develop recommendations for change or action based on the analysis
  • An understanding of cultural, racial, and gender unconscious biases
  • Knowledge of SOC2 compliance a plus

WHAT WE OFFER YOU?

An opportunity to be part of an agile team of thinkers and doers who are driven, collaborative, and authentic. You play a key role in shaping our incredible company and culture. Some of our benefits include:

  • Meaningful equity as an employee at a growing, venture-backed software company. We want you to participate and make decisions as an owner with our future in mind.
  • Top-tier insurance plans to select from along with a FSA and HSA where you can set aside pre-tax money for out-of-pocket medical expenses.
  • 3 weeks of vacation time plus sick days, all 10 major holidays, and 1 floating holiday for your birthday, religious holiday, or other special day of your choice.
  • Up to 2 paid days off each year to volunteer at the charity of your choice.
  • An “Even Merrier Christmas” when we shut down the office between Christmas and New Year so you can enjoy your family and friends.
  • A powder ski day for that one day when you’ve just got to hit the slopes with no lift lines.
