Job Title and Location: Software Revenue Accounting Manager, located in Denver, Colorado
Reports to: VP Controller
About the Position: We are seeking a technical accounting expert who specializes in software revenue recognition. We sell our software and implementation services using perpetual, time-based, percentage of completion, and SaaS models. This position is an individual contributor role.
Required Experience:
- Must have had a significant role in the implementation of ASC 606 at a software company
- Must be expert level in current software revenue recognition rules (ASC 605-985, 605-25 and 605-35)
- Must be a CPA with 4-6+ years of experience working in public accounting (or equivalent experience)
- Able to defend positions taken with auditors
- Strong excel skills
- Familiarity with purchase accounting rules as they relate to deferred revenue
- Experience establishing and maintaining support for VSOE
Nice to Have Experience:
- 2+ years working in the revenue function of a software company
- Experience with NetSuite
- Transaction tax background (sales, use, etc…)
Duties:
- Read and interpret existing customer contracts
- Own the monthly close of revenue which includes:
- Preparation of percentage of completion calculations,
- Preparation of journal entries,
- Reconciliation of deferred revenue and unbilled receivable accounts
- Maintaining excel spreadsheets for revenue by customer and other reporting needs
- Partner with the sales and legal organizations to review and properly structure new customer contracts
- Review closed customer contracts and approve the contract for booking.
- Collaborate with FP&A team to forecast revenue including presentation to CFO on a monthly basis which includes:
- Meetings with consulting team management to track customer project status to ensure percentage of completion calculations are accurate
- Maintain forecast for recurring revenue streams (i.e. hosting, cloud and maintenance)
- Sales and use tax liaison with tax firm
- Help determine proper revenue recognition for new revenue models
- Coordinate and update monthly bookings report
- Write technical memos on accounting for new revenue contracts
- Ability to meet close deadlines and work overtime when needed
- Ability to support the billing and collection team when needed
- Strong written and verbal skills – at the tactical and strategic levels
- Ability to work with remote team members
- Ability to identify and resolve accounting issues through analysis and investigation
