POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Staff Accountant will play a key role in helping manage the day-to-day operations of the Accounting/Finance department and the Company’s financial reporting system. These activities include maintaining adequate accounting processes and internal controls and managing the general ledger in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Job performance will involve a variety of activities including the following:

  • Perform day-to-day general ledger tasks and research and correct account discrepancies.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts in Excel as part of the month-end accounting close process.
  • Assist with tax compliance related to sales and use taxes, payroll taxes and associated registrations.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual financial audits.
  • Develop and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommend changes as an objective of continuous system improvement.
  • Serve as back-up for the Payroll, Accounts payable and Accounts receivable functions.
  • Manage sales and use tax compliance in all locations.
  • File new employee withholding tax registrations when needed.
  • Support Controller, as and when assigned and appropriate, on all auditing procedures, processes and requirements.
  • Train, or assist with the training of, new accountants and accounting clerks.
  • Help with the evaluation and documentation of internal controls and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
  • Perform ad hoc projects and prepare ad hoc reports as directed by the Controller.
  • Prepare and maintain work instructions for all job tasks.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years’ experience in an accounting function, preferably with international operations
  • Extensive account Reconciliation experience including complex bank accounts required
  • Experience preparing and posting journal entries related to month end close and audit adjustments required.
  • Experience processing payroll required
  • Experience with manufacturing and life science companies is desired
  • Inventory costing experience would be a plus
  • Experience with ERP system migration/implementation and ability to learn new systems desired
  • Understanding of GAAP, accounting processes and internal controls
  • A passion for the details and an ability to explain them
  • Natural curiosity and desire to drive continuous improvement
  • Strong attention to detail and process
  • Demonstrated ability to document and improve processes
  • Intermediate Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP’s) and proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Access)

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
