Velocity Global aims to hire a Senior Director of Global Payroll, based in our Denver, CO headquarters. This full-time position is a global client service leadership role that offers the successful candidate the opportunity to join a rapidly growing international company that is creating an entirely new category across the world, led by a veteran team in this unique industry space. This role calls for someone who is truly “high velocity” and “solutions-minded” where resourcefulness and execution across global markets are key to success. This individual will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
At its core, this position is focused on leading our Global Payroll function by supporting our clients, our service teams, and, most importantly, the employees we serve across the globe through payroll accountability and oversight. This individual will be responsible for vendor contracts and relationships, process standardization, process automation and improvement as well as leading and training of our Global Payroll team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure an always accurate, timely, and complete payroll process across 180+ countries
- Oversee worldwide payroll service delivery while managing cross-functional teams responsible for comprehensive payroll activities from onboarding to payroll service delivery
- Drive quality and innovation by managing and working with internal Global Payroll team and external payroll partners to drive accuracy, accountability, timeliness and optimization
- Create and maintain company-wide payroll processes to effectively track payroll activities such as review of leave of absence payments, retroactive payments, commissions, bonuses, new hires, termination payments, expense reports, and any other payroll additions, constantly identifying best practices and driving continuous improvement
- Lead the creation of training materials and provide training, coaching and assistance to Client Service and Payroll teams for international payroll processes
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all data reporting and payroll transactions through the creation and maintenance of validation reports, procedures and global metrics
- Consistently review KPIs with the Network Management team to drive improvements and innovation solutions with partners
- Ensure supported employee payroll tax filings are completed in a timely manner according to local legislation
- Research and develop strong risk management procedures to ensure payroll accuracy based on regulatory changes and/or audit results on a global scale
- Develop and maintain a strategic and coordinated approach for solving business critical country-specific regulatory requirements and compliance requests
- Drive consistency of processes globally while adapting for regional efforts within global process standardization initiatives
- Maximize the effectiveness of technologies and supporting processes to drive continuous improvement and scalable initiatives
- Implement and maintain internal controls and procedures to ensure compliance with multi-national wage laws and regulations
- Ensure relentless focus on data integrity and protection by regularly recommending proactive actions to prevent payroll discrepancies
- Proactively analyze payroll-related practices and new legislation to ensure that payroll operations follow the statutory requirements of the respective geographies of operation
- Establish and maintain competency in the area of international employment, payroll and PEO (Professional Employment Organization)
- Partner with cross-functional teams and review all communications including but not limited to global regulations, payroll, employment tax and expense reimbursement compliance, and complex compensation packages
- Generate reports for cross-departmental analysis and review
- Represent Velocity Global as a thought leader in the PEO and global payroll services industry
QUALIFICATIONS
- 8-10 years of experience in GLOBAL payroll delivery, accounting and/or corporate finance preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting preferred; Master’s degree a plus
- Global payroll leadership experience required
- Experience in leading, training, and developing international, distributed teams is required
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including strong execution, and timely and thorough follow-through
- Proven client service and solutions delivery experience
- Experience in negotiating service contracts with global third-party partners
- Experience in setting up payroll requirements for new legal entities
- Experience in managing multiple large payroll vendors and contracts
- Experience in transforming a payroll function that is primarily manual to one that is highly scalable and efficient.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, show independence, adaptability and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy with strong attention to detail
- Ability to maintain a strict level of confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion, sound judgment, and diplomacy
- Foreign currency exchange experience is desirable
- Experience working in global HRIS platforms is desirable
- Experience working with NetSuite is desirable
