Job Summary: 

The senior accountant is responsible for managing various aspects of the full accounting cycle for the Company. The senior accountant will be directly responsible for accounting for all entities, intercompany transfer and analysis, monthly and annual closing of periods including cost accounting, variance/cost analysis recommendations and financial reporting.  Additionally, the senior accountant will support the Controller for tax, audit and year-end closing. This position includes performing ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed.  Progressive history of growing within an accounting department is preferred.  

Essential Duties:

Month End Close

  • Review and manage month-end close
  • Record month end journal entries and ensure financial statements are complete and accurate including validating cost of goods sold, labor and expense reporting.
  • Own balance sheet activity and review staff accountant’s work
  • Review and manage account reconciliations including payroll reporting
  • Review and submit sales tax filings
  • Analyze and manage reporting on period end financial statements

Receivables

  • Review and manage A/R processes.
  • Aging management
  • Cash reconciliations

Tax/Audit

  • Complete PBC schedules on a timely basis
  • Prepare for and assist in completing annual tax reporting requirements
  • Complete and respond to auditors’ requests for annual financial audit
  • Maintain accounting in compliance with GAAP and auditors’ recommendations
  • Assist and prepare schedules for year-end review

Analysis

  • Analyze and report on component material, labor and overhead costs to enable the management team to improve overall efficiency, quality and profitability
  • Report on margins by services and product
  • Report on periodic variances and their causes, and work with operations, finance and purchasing teams to mitigate unfavorable variances
  • Develops and creates KPI reporting for management review
  • Assists with preparation of budgets and forecasts
  • Perform general financial analysis as assigned

General Accounting

  • Ensure financial integrity of month-end reconciliations and preparations of financial statements. 
  • Assist in monthly account reconciliation process including preparation and review of complex reconciliations
  • Train and review work of staff accountant
  • Assist in establishing and documenting standard operating procedures
  • Identify areas for process improvement and assist in the design and implementation of improvements
  • Assist and prepare schedules for year-end review
  • Monitor cash activity and record transfers and drawer fills
  • Assist Controller as needed on more complex transactions

Education / Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance required
  • 4-5 years of accounting/finance experience as a staff accountant, accounts payable manager or assistant accounting manager.
  • Experience in retail, restaurant or manufacturing preferred

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • High proficiency in Excel and Word, 10-key by touch
  • Strong work ethic, self-starter, reliable
  • Highly Detailed oriented, professional attitude, strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of cost accounting principles preferred
  • Strong problem-solving, research and analysis skills
  • Experience with an ERP system (Great Plains preferred, but not required)
  • Ability to adapt, grow and change with the business
