The Scrum Master is responsible for working with business delivery teams to deliver key products within the association, both internal and customer-facing, using agile principles. The key to the success of this position is partnering with Product Owners and coaching the team to ensure functionality through ongoing understanding of agile practices.  

The Scrum Master plans and executes sprint planning, conducts daily scrum meetings, prepares retrospectives, etc. to support the successful delivery of product backlog work items.  In addition to owning the Scrum Master duties for a team, this position is instrumental in driving cohesive agile practices across the association and other Scrum Masters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:      

  • Act as a servant leader including facilitation, situational awareness, and conflict resolution.
  • Facilitate daily stand-ups, to monitor sprint progress.
  • Work with business delivery team members to break down deliverables into epics, user stories, and tasks.
  • Coach and mentor the business delivery team in agile frameworks and principles and fostering the team’s ability to self-organize.
  • Mediate conflicts to assist the team in making decisions.
  • Remove sprint road blocks and facilitate solution development with the team.
  • Supports a culture of continuous process improvement through sprint retrospectives and key indicators around team performance.
  • Ensures clear communication and organization of all association strategic and business delivery team goals.
  • Take responsibility for all product delivery.
  • Promote transparency and team empowerment across teams.
  • Collaborate with other Scrum Masters across teams.
  • Perform other functions as assigned.

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) preferred but not required
  •  Five or more years of experience working as a scrum master, product manager, or project manager in an agricultural or financial institution REQUIRED.
  • Ability to build strong interpersonal relationships with business delivery teams, leadership, senior management and internal/external stakeholders.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate clearly and concisely across business delivery teams.
  • Solid understanding of the product lifecycle.
  • In-depth understanding of agile methodologies, and up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to communicate with a broad set of constituencies, both technical and non-technical.
  • Basic understanding of software development practices to understand team needs is desired.
  • Proficient computer skills, Microsoft office suite, and applicable databases.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Must have the ability to perform basic office tasks and sit at a desk for an extended period of time. Job requires extensive use of computers and phones. While performing the job, the employee is required to sit, crouch, kneel, crawl, reach and have the ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to work with typical hardware and cabling practices required. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to adequately convey ideas and work well with a team. Ability to talk and hear, sit and use their hands and fingers, and reach in all directions is essential in performance of the job. Must be able to interact effectively with people at all levels of company. Work during established business hours and may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
