Who We Are

Nylas was founded in 2013 by a couple of MIT graduates who were passionate about making complex systems simpler. Co-founder and CTO Christine Spang saw that email use was growing at a steady rate, yet there wasn’t a simple way to unify this data-rich tool in a way that developers could easily integrate with this data. She and a small team (at the time) set out to fix this. Fast-forward to 2020, Nylas has successfully raised funding from Spark Capital, 8VC, ScaleUP, Round13, Citi Ventures, Slack Fund, Data Collective, Fuel Capital, and SV Angel. Nylas customers span from large enterprises such as Hyundai, Fox News Corp, Hubspot and Move.com to high-growth start-ups like Dialpad, Pipedrive, Lexicata, and Sparkpost.

The Role

 

In true startup fashion, you must be comfortable wearing multiple hats: working on our financial functions, collaborating closely with our accounting and finance team, assisting other departments with their budgets and forecasts, and working with vendors, customers and investors. The role reports to the Controller and will start as an individual contributor with room to grow to manage others in the future. You'll be an integral part of enabling rapid growth and scaling our internal teams and business processes. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit and like to deeply understand the inner-workings of a company, you will thrive in this role. 

You will assist the Controller with our company-wide financial planning and analysis by working on financial projections, cash flow analysis, revenue projections, budget vs actual variances, analysing sales and marketing projections, customer growth analysis, delivering reports for business partners and other stakeholders, and maintaining and reporting on key SaaS metrics. 

What You'll Do

  • Create detailed complex financial and analytical models to forecast and analyze revenue performance, marketing efficiencies and pricing optimization
  • Collaborate with multiple departments on the annual expense budget process
  • Manage headcount and new hire tracking by collaborating with the HR and Recruiting teams
  • Work with massive data reports to analyze sales and operating performance that will help make important business decisions
  • Work closely with the accounting and finance team on preparation of detailed budgets and forecasts, including P&L, cash flow, and balance sheet projections
  • Support accounting and billing team regarding pricing and invoice calculations
  • Track, analyze and report on key performance indicators
  • Identify cost saving opportunities and ways to improve capital efficiency 
  • Dynamically support finance and investors relations functions through the next phase of the company’s growth
  • Ability to multitask and manage tight deadlines with little to no supervision
  • Review and improve the finance team’s tech stack, potentially implementing new tools as necessary

What You'll Bring

  • 4-6 years of FP&A experience, with at least 2 years at a SaaS startup
  • Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Expert level of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint (and Google Sheets/ Google Slides)
  • Experience using Salesforce data to aid in revenue forecasting
  • Able to build complex financial models from scratch
  • BA/BS in Finance, Accounting, Economics or similar analytical discipline
  • CPA, CFA, MBA preferred
  • Data science experience, and/or knowledge of SQL a plus
  • Experience with FP&A software tools and creating automated reporting dashboards a plus
  • Knowledge of apps such as Tableau, Looker, Retool and Recurly a plus

Compensation Range:

70,000-110,000 + equity
