Role Overview

The Technical Accounting and Reporting Manager will take the lead on  the research and documentation of technical accounting issues and the implementation of new accounting standards. This position will also have major responsibilities in the preparation and tie out of quarterly financial reporting, including the financial statements, notes, MD&A, XBRL tagging, etc.  This role will support critical financial controls, and will have responsibilities as part of the monthly close.  The Technical Accounting and Reporting Manager will take ownership of their duties and will be a key member of a growing accounting team working to increase the speed of the monthly close and provide information for critical business decisions.  Overtime, the Technical Accounting and Reporting Manager will have the opportunity to gain a high-level understanding of the Company and experience in a variety of technical topics and accounting functions.   

Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as subject matter expert on technical accounting matters
  • Identify technical accounting issues in new or pending transactions, contracts, or agreements
  • Research and interpret accounting guidance issued by the FASB and SEC and summarize the application of that guidance to the Company’s technical accounting issues in the Company’s position papers, policies, and procedures
  • Prepare analysis of issues researched and communicate findings, recommendations, and impacts to senior leadership
  • Partner with accounting and finance leaders and operational leadership to analyze new structures, transactions, agreements, partnerships, joint ventures, etc., and the technical accounting implications for different constituencies
  • Take ownership of the implementation of new accounting standards and serve as project manager on such implementations, coordinating with all parties involved
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of process improvements, including opportunities to automate or otherwise increase the efficiency of processes
  • In coordination with the Director of Financial Reporting, Controller, management, and SEC Counsel, assist in the creation and tieout of financial reporting, including the preparation and execution of XBRL tagging
  • Analyze financial statements and other financial information for consistency and accuracy
  • Perform and/or support the accounting for more complex and technical areas in support of the monthly close
  • Assist in the development and continual improvement of accounting policies
  • Perform and take ownership of key controls related to the technical accounting and financial reporting processes
  • Assist in the monitoring of a number of key accounting controls
  • Serve as a resource to those within and outside the accounting department, helping them to understand the nature of technical accounting and financial reporting matters
  • Prepare and analyze accounting records and financial statements to assess accuracy and completeness and adherence to US GAAP requirements
  • Assist with regular audits and reviews by external auditors
  • Keep up to date on accounting knowledge
  • Other related duties and projects as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Expertise in US GAAP,  SEC guidance, and Sarbanes-Oxley controls
  • Works with purpose and a sense of urgency; deadline focused and commitment driven; strong organizational and time management skills
  • Passion for working in a high paced environment and constantly learning through exposure to new areas
  • Excellent initiative and ability to analyze, question and summarize data for decision making
  • Detail oriented professional who takes pride in exactness of support and consistency in presentation
  • Experience interacting and communicating clearly and effectively with upper management and operations personnel
  • Proficient in the use of spreadsheets and the manipulation of large data sets
  • Proficient in written communication, with a drive for clear, understandable, and consistent reports
  • Prior experience in public accounting
  • Strong knowledge of the company’s general ledger and appropriate coding within those accounts
  • Aptitude to be responsive and helpful, both within the department and to other departments

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or aerospace business is a plus
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is strongly preferred
  • Experience with general ledger and ERP software is a plus

Compensation:

The Base Salary Range for this position is $110,000-$160,000 and represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, long term incentives/equity, an open PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
