Role Overview

Boom is building world-class business operations to support its mission of restoring supersonic commercial flight. We are looking for a skilled FP&A Director to be part of designing and scaling our finance and accounting practices. The FP&A Director will play a key role in ensuring that Boom’s financial resources are optimally invested across the business. As FP&A Director, you will be core to the team’s mission of delivering privately-developed supersonic flight by stewarding performance against forecasts and budget. 

Your primary responsibilities will be: manage the long-range plan, annual and monthly budgets, and rolling forecasts. You will also be responsible for providing a view on the valuation of the company against competitor and market benchmarks. You will tactically analyze and strategically assess the company’s financial needs; design and build world-class financial forecasting processes; and safeguard the efficient use of resources through budget and expense analysis. You will look at the company’s finances with a critical eye—trying to spot data anomalies, trends, or deviations—and then will introduce strategies for improvement. It will be your job to work with people across the company to drive cost efficiencies and improve the accuracy of the forecasting process.

You should have excellent interpersonal skills, generating buy-in to support disciplined budgets and accurate forecasts. You should be technically skilled and mathematically inclined, while having the candor and tact to help a startup take the next step in financial maturity. You will be able to lead and motivate a lean financial analyst team in support of meeting Boom’s FP&A objectives. You must also be willing to roll up your sleeves and dive deep into the details to wrestle value out of financial forecasts.

Key Competencies:

  • Roll-up-sleeves mindset, and leader to motivate and develop a team of FP&A professionals
  • Partner with CFO to review and develop strategies for the overall financial growth of the company and evaluate and advise on short and long-range integrated financial and operational planning
  • Responsible for annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting for the Company, including development of presentations for monthly and quarterly business reviews, annual budgets, and business planning initiatives, as well as reporting progress against budget and forecast
  • Understands the financial impact of changes within the company to alert management of any significant changes to current operating trends and results
  • Support all operations of the business with timely and accurate financial analysis to make key operational decisions – identify opportunities and come forward with recommendations
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to build effective relationships and influence others
  • Results driven with strong bias for action 

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience managing FP&A in a manufacturing or engineering environment; public company experience preferred 
  • 5+ years proven leadership experience managing and developing a team
  • Prior experience as a financial analyst in a corporate FP&A team or in investment banking
  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical discipline; MBA a plus
  • Excellent analytic and financial modeling skills
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
