Reporting directly to Pie's VP Finance, this business-critical role will be responsible for directing and leading business partner support for Pie's operational business teams, acting as a trusted advisor to departmental leaders and helping them to analyze, manage, grow, and optimize their functions. This role will also direct month- and quarter-end reporting and reviews, and this role will direct the annual budgeting process. The Director, FP&A and Business Partnering will have an in-depth knowledge of subject matter, models, and key drivers, while at the same time telling the story of our financial results. Additionally, this position includes management and development responsibilities.
How You'll Do It

  • Provide financial management and decision guidance for all functional areas of the company
    • Proactively partner with Pie executives and managers to provide recurring and ad hoc decision making support, financial analysis, and advice on reaching business growth and efficiency goals while staying within budget
    • Design, track, and report on department level KPIs to analyze business trends and provide financial insights
    • Create strong cross-functional relationships across the teams
  • Influence and drive operational excellence throughout Pie
    • Analyze detailed operational results, comparing against internal and external benchmarks to identify areas for improvement
    • Collaborate with experts within Pie to formulate actionable recommendations, roll out new initiatives, and track results
    • Challenge existing norms or courses of action, facilitating fully informed decision-making. Create constructive friction by asking the right questions and challenging assumptions as we continue to transform the business
  • Budgeting and Forecast Support
    • Manage and coordinate the annual budgeting process and maintain rolling updates
    • Collaborate with Strategic Finance colleagues to inform near- and long-term financial forecasts
    • Work closely with the People and Talent team to inform headcount, hiring, and compensation decisions
  • Reporting
    • Develop, lead and manage processes to produce the monthly financial review and monthly/quarterly operating results including KPI dashboards and other management reports
    • Analyze and report on the monthly and quarterly results and dig into variances to budget and forecast, collaborating with Strategic Finance and Accounting colleagues
    • Understand the root causes behind financial trends and build the financial narratives to facilitate understanding of Pie's business
    • Identify and drive process improvements to create efficiencies and accuracy of the team's work
    • Provide financial expertise and support to evaluation and negotiations with key vendors and strategic partners
  • Hire, develop and manage a team of 2-3


The Right Stuff

  • Minimum 8 years of related professional experience preferred, including specific experience in corporate FP&A
  • Prior leadership and people management experience with multiple direct reports and is effective as a player/coach contributor
  • Exceptional analytical skills and natural curiosity for how a company's financial metrics and KPIs indicate its inner workings
  • Experience developing KPI reporting; identifying metrics and developing dashboards
  • Natural inclination to formulate your own opinions and the ability to influence executive business partners and other non-financial stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral/written communication skills, with the ability to weave your insights into a cohesive narrative and adapt your style for both experts and laypeople
  • Significant attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment
  • Enjoys building, bringing order to chaos, and anticipating what is around the corner
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and can navigate complexity; able to direct work and analyses even when limited information or inputs are available
  • Prefers to base decisions on data and ROI
  • Track record of driving operational improvements and financial efficiency
  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Facile with learning new technologies
  • Not required, but a plus:
    • Operational experience at a high growth tech startup
    • Experience navigating through systems enhancements/implementations with financial planning tools
    • Familiarity with Google Suite, Adaptive Insights, SQL, Looker, Snowflake, Intacct, Workday, and/or other ERP and business intelligence systems


Base compensation for position: $165,000 - $230,000

Location Information
Unless otherwise specified, this role has the option to be hybrid or remote. Hybrid work locations provide team members with the flexibility of working partially from our Denver or DC office and from home. Remote team members must live and work in the United States* (*territories excluded), and have access to reliable, high-speed internet.
