Director Accounting, Assistant Controller


The Opportunity

Marketo has an amazing opportunity for a Director Accounting, Assistant Controller to join our fast-growing software company. This position will report to our VP Finance, Corporate Controller who will invest time in the Director Accounting, Assistant Controller's professional growth and development. The Director Accounting, Assistant Controller will manage all aspects of technical and operational accounting, outside of the Order-to-Cash process. Your team is directly engaged in general ledger accounting, non-revenue technical accounting (leases, goodwill and intangibles, impairment, equity, stock compensation, joint ventures, etc.), payroll, financial reporting and will be involved in helping ensure accurate and timely financial statement and results. Among other responsibilities, the Director Accounting, Assistant Controller will ensure timely monthly financial close and reporting, proper general ledger accounting, world-class technical accounting, and internal controls compliance. Additionally, this position will interact with various global and departmental teams in addressing and solving various accounting issues. Finally, candidates must be prepared to work in a fun, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.

This position will reside in our newly opened and freshly remodeled downtown Denver office, with a "Silicon Valley" atmosphere where the business has created a Global Center of Excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Ensure timely monthly financial close and reporting, proper general ledger accounting, world-class technical accounting, and internal controls compliance
  • Supervise a team of 8-10 employees in the areas of general ledger accounting, non-revenue technical accounting, payroll and financial reporting
  • Partner with the International Accounting team as well as various functional departments to ensure accurate accounting and full understanding of issues that require accounting consulting
  • Assist with systems implementations and cross-functional projects
  • Identify and implement process improvements involving simplification, documentation standardization and policy establishment
  • Support all aspects of the monthly financial close process including account reconciliations, international consolidation, cash flows and preparation of monthly reporting package
  • Manage core finance processes/functions including accounts payable, accruals, GL, fixed assets, certain international accounting entities and consolidation
  • Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices
  • Oversee the company's expense management process from vendor invoicing to payment, as well as the reimbursement of employee expenses

REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE: 

  • BA in accounting, finance or relevant field; Master's degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) certification
  • 10+ years of experience with a mix of public accounting and industry; Big 4 public accounting preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting processes (e.g. US GAAP, financial close, etc.)
  • Significant experience interacting with ERP systems; Intacct use preferred
  • Preferred knowledge and use of Coupa, Concur, Nexonia, Adaptive Insights, and SalesForce.com
  • Strong working knowledge of common office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to clearly and concisely interface with all levels of management
  • Ability to proactively identify and solve problems with strong analytical skills
  • Critical thinker with attention to detail who can seek innovative solutions to complex business and technical issues
