Role Overview: 

We are looking for a Controller to join our growing team. The Controller will play a key role in developing the strategic roadmap to mature our accounting organization, including designing our internal accounting controls, ensuring tax compliance, and planning the evolution of our accounting organization.

Your primary responsibilities will be: design rigorous accounting policies and internal controls to support a growing business while managing within a budget; optimize our tax planning and ensure strong tax compliance; develop the strategic roadmap for maturing Boom’s accounting organization over time; complete monthly financial close and prepare supporting financial reports; engage constructively with independent auditors in completing annual audits.

You will research and develop Boom’s accounting policies and leverage best practices in the industry. You will help Boom with tax planning as it expands its activities into multiple states. It will be your job to develop a long-term view of how Boom’s accounting organization scales and matures. Your strong financial controls and accounting processes will play a key role in allowing Boom to raise future investment. 

Do you love solving complex accounting problems in a startup environment? Do you have experience navigating multi-state tax planning? Do you like designing and building accounting processes? Do you want to be part of a team restoring supersonic commercial flight? If so, you might be an ideal fit for this role. 

You should have excellent technical accounting and tax planning skills. You should be mathematically inclined, while having the candor and tact to help a startup take the next step in financial maturity. You must be willing to roll up your sleeves and dive into the details to design new accounting policies and develop Boom’s accounting organization. 

Working in a startup environment means taking on unexpected responsibilities and attempting tasks that no one in the company knows how to do. The successful candidate has a resourceful, can-do approach to these demands and enjoys the continuous learning curve of a startup. 

The Controller will report directly to the CFO and will be a member of Boom’s growing Finance team.

Key Competencies:

  • Proven ability to provide accurate and timely financial reporting on a consistent basis
  • Roll-up-sleeves mindset, and leader to motivate and develop a lean accounting team
  • Work collaboratively with business partners to improve reporting and controls
  • Partner with CFO on implementation of key initiatives, including ERP integration
  • Effectively project manage annual independent audit process
  • Maintain oversight over proper processing and reporting of all business transactions
  • Comply with all statutory filing requirements, tax reporting and payment requirements
  • Broad business acumen, excellent communication skills, and ability to think strategically 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or similar analytical discipline
  • 7+ years of experience with an increasing level of responsibility
  • CPA with public company accounting experience
  • Experience developing US GAAP compliant accounting policies and procedures
  • Accounting software and ERP experience across multiple platforms
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing, aerospace, or startup business is a plus
