About the Role

The Vice President of Technology is responsible for leading all technical aspects of the company.  This person will collaborate with Executive Leadership to set strategic goals and initiatives, grow the company through the use of technological resources, and foster an environment to support innovation, passion, and empathy.  The Vice President of Technology will not just work on scaling our technical offerings, but will lead as we grow our Engineering, IT, Data Warehouse, and Support teams from 30 to 100+.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy:

  • Establish the company’s technical vision and lead all aspects of the company’s technological development.

  • Provide leadership to the technical department and other department heads in support of the company’s culture, vision, and values.

  • Work in a consultative fashion with other department heads, such as marketing, production, and operations as an advisor of technologies that may improve their efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Conduct research on leading edge technologies and makes determinations on the probability of implementation.

  • Act as a good steward of OrthoFi resources and ensure control of IT and Engineering departmental budgets.

IT Infrastructure Planning, Implementation, and Support:

  • Develop and maintain the IT strategic plan to ensure OrthoFi’s IT capabilities meet current needs and that system upgrades and other changes are aligned with the evolving needs of the organization.

  • Place great emphasis on the IT service delivery model, closely monitoring performance and making adjustments as needed to optimize results.

  • Ensure sound technical decisions for engineering, technical architecture, data warehousing, and internal business tools.

  • Accountable for our client facing product’s reliability, stability, and performance.

  • Lead all technical infrastructure, focusing on internal systems integration (LMS, CRM, etc.), new tool proof-of-concepts, and growing and mentoring an IT-specific team.

  • Align with external benchmarks to ensure relevance and cost-effectiveness of recommended IT strategies.

  • Fine-tune Product Support best practices to increase monitoring capabilities while decreasing outages, downtime, and customer impact.

  • Responsible for company-wide Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery.

Software Engineering and DevOps:

  • Partner with Product Leadership to deliver our company’s roadmap on time and within budget.

  • Accountable for the velocity & quality of the engineering team.

  • Identify opportunities, obstacles, challenges, and risks related to the software involved in delivery of the company’s current and future products and services.

  • Provide guidance for current Engineering Leadership and assist with internal growth by fostering a culture based on mentorship and instruction.

  • Grow team from 30 to 100+ over the next several years, allowing OrthoFi’s Engineering team to innovate and scale offerings.

  • Set best practices for Agile and XP development, inter-team communication, DevOps, and CI/CD.

  • Stay on top of changes in software engineering and architecture, and make recommendations to forecast problems and provide solutions for both current and future needs.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • BS in related field and at least 15 years experience in the Information Technology arena

  • At least 10 years management and strategic leadership experience

  • Experience in tech start-ups, especially during periods of major growth

  • Ability to actively communicate, inspire, and motivate all levels of staff

  • Ability to think and act strategically and proactively

  • Strong writing and presentation skills

  • Experience with our development languages (full stack, C#, AngularJS, SQL Server), development methodologies (Agile, paired programming, TDD, etc.) and BI/DW platforms (AWS, ETL/ELT, Tableau) is a plus but not required
