We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced VP of Platform, Infrastructure, & Engineering. You will be joining a growing team of Machine Learning Engineers and Software Engineers working to develop a one-of-a-kind resource based on machine learning. The VP of Platform, Infrastructure, & Engineering is responsible for the day to day technology execution for multiple products and will lead product delivery and execution, helping individual contributors and leads focus on delivering DevOps, MicroServices, APIs, Production Machine Learning Model Services, Site Reliability, Business Intelligence, and Infrastructure. This role includes interfacing with the leadership team on long-term strategy, delivering weekly deliverables, helping engineers across the organization solve problems, and executing solutions, including code reviews. The VP of Engineering will report to the CTO and will work hand in hand with the Product team and Chief Strategy Officer to ensure product execution and vision are aligned and delivered.

The ideal candidate for this role should possess a high work ethic, excellent communication skills, and exceptional technical skills. ​ This role will require a balance between short, medium, and long-term thinking/planning. The ​ideal candidate may not always know the answer, but instead, be a person who is able to guide the right technical and product discussions to help the entire team make data-driven decisions.

What you will do:

• Lead product delivery and execution
• Lead the weekly planning and execution of DevOps, API, Micro-Services, and Site Reliability (high availability, on-call, monitoring)
• Work with the engineering team and leadership team to build road maps and lead prioritization; balance the right amount of structure and planning for a fast-paced execution-focused engineering team
• Identify/Validate priorities and delegate to multiple teams to execute
• Take part in leading decisions of our Architecture & Design Committee
• Identify resource requirements and help drive recruitment of high-quality colleagues

What you bring:

• Experience leading teams of Software Engineers, DevOps engineers, System Engineers, It Admins, and Site Reliability Engineers
• Experience designing, developing, and deploying distributed/cloud geospatial systems and optimizing AWS architecture is preferred
• Prior experience as a hands-on software engineer
• Ability to take part in code reviews and helping engineers solve problems (read ‘get your hands dirty’)
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
• Superior interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills
• Experience leading a geographically dispersed team preferred

What you know

• How to effectively plan, design, develop and evaluate engineering sprints and backlogs

• Experience in planning infrastructure for effective Business Intelligence metrics

• AWS knowledge and experience, including system design and architecture
• Preferred knowledge and experience with geospatial data, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Python, K8s, Javascript, CI/CD
