We’re Verblio: a unique content creation startup based in Denver, CO.  We live at the intersection of two huge trends - the future of marketing and the future of work.

In the future of marketing, content lays at the foundation.  But it’s really hard to create quality content consistently, and particularly at scale. It requires time, resources, and talent, and many companies simply can’t reasonably or cost-effectively staff in-house.  That’s where we come in.

By combining a marketplace business model with the flexibility and deep vertical expertise of SaaS, Verblio enables writers to create 70,000+ pieces of unique content per year for our customers.  With a network of over 3,000 professional writers, Verblio provides the platform for modern digital agencies, businesses, enterprises, and publishers to create unique content creation solutions.

To do all of this, we’ve created a high-performing SaaS startup led by a 15-year marketplace industry veteran and staffed by a team of energetic, eclectic startup junkies, writing enthusiasts, and random liberal arts degree collectors.

We acquired a video platform in 2019 to expand into multimedia content creation as well.

We’ve been on a full-tilt growth spurt for several years and have grandiose plans for near term world domination...and that’s where you come in!  We are looking for the right technical lead aka VP of Engineering/ CTO to join our team to add jet fuel to this rocket.  Ready?

About the role:

We are looking for an enterprising and inspired VP of Engineering/ CTO to lead our technology team and continue to architect, build, improve, and innovate our systems.  This leader has proven strategic success and also enjoys getting into the weeds with the team to solve challenges and offer support.

This full-time, exempt position will be responsible for:

  1. Serving as a critical strategic partner to all parts of the company.  You’ll partner with marketing, sales, client services, writers, product, finance and maybe more, all with the goal of translating our strategic business decisions into technology capabilities.  Marketplace businesses are incredibly exciting, as we serve both our writers and our clients. But they also add a healthy dose of complexity that requires great vision to predict how a million moving pieces will all work together.

You’ll lead and continue to build a strong long-term technology strategy that aligns with the company’s strategic plan and influences the overall company direction.  You’ll drive accountability and own metrics to translate strategy into results. You’ll also align and inspire your organization by effectively communicating and engaging the team in the strategy.
  2. Leading, growing and retaining a high-performing technology team. We’ve got a small, but rapidly growing tech team that covers a lot of ground.  And yet somehow, the more we grow the more we need to cover.

  3. Continuously improving our technology. For our core business, the video company we acquired, and potential innovations beyond.

  4. Driving new business and growth through engineering solutions. In addition to building a platform that provides amazing value through its content creation capabilities, we’re also building a new model for delivering scalable marketplace services that can apply much more widely.

What you will need to be successful in this role:

  • Engineering management experience in high-growth organizations.
  • Proven experience building, growing, retaining and inspiring a team  of client-focused engineers.
  • While this role will define how much coding you should do on a regular basis, experience in our stack (Ruby on Rails, Angular, Typescript, Postgresql, Apollo GraphQL, Heroku, Recurly) is a plus.
  • Proven extensive experience building large-scale technology and applications that are reliable, scalable, using industry best practices.
  • A track record for delivery in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
  • A belief that continuous learning is crucial to improve execution and a readiness to remove any roadblocks that are holding the team back.
  • Experience being a strategic partner who can translate business problems to technology solutions.
  • The hunger and scrappiness to do all of this in a startup environment where budgets aren’t unlimited and systems can be complex or imperfect.
  • A sense of humor and desire to have lots of fun each day. You should probably have a decent appreciation, or at least tolerance, for witty puns and obscure liberal arts references.

What makes Verblio a great place to work?

  • We work hard, have fun, learn a lot, and are proud of our transparent, collaborative culture.
  • We believe in doing good, and that creating great opportunities for home-based writers is just as important as helping our clients find their next customer.
  • Last year we made the Inc 5000 list and won our fifth Mercury 100 award as one of the fastest-growing companies in the Boulder Valley.
  • We offer competitive salaries, equity, health, dental & vision insurance, an RTD Eco Pass, and a generous vacation policy. We’re based in the heart of downtown Denver and close to all the action.
