At Vivian Health, we’re on a mission to transform hiring and recruiting in healthcare. We’re a high impact and positive impact business working to efficiently and cost effectively match the right talent to the right jobs in the healthcare sector, and as a result, help reduce healthcare costs and improve patient care.

We started by bringing transparency and increased access to the opaque and offline $17 billion temporary healthcare staffing industry, and we are now building the largest marketplace in the $1.5 trillion healthcare labor market that enables all healthcare professionals to find their perfect job opportunity, faster and easier than ever before.  We empower healthcare professionals across the country by giving them unprecedented access to honest, transparent, and real-time information to aid them in their job search. We connect candidates to the highest paying, most relevant healthcare jobs in the country and we help enable research around the best places to work.

Our goal is to help healthcare professionals take the headache out of finding a great job, and for healthcare employers, making it easier and faster to find great talent. Through the Vivian Health platform, we enable staffing agencies and healthcare employers to more easily find relevant talent, communicate more efficiently, and make better hiring decisions, ultimately enabling them to serve patients more safely and effectively.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is an opportunity to bridge the gap and be the go-between for the Design and Mobile Engineering teams at Vivian. You will be one of the first few people to join this team and help us build a culture of design thinking coupled with engineering excellence.

As an UX Engineer focused on React Native, you’ll be a core and early founding member of the Design Systems team at Vivian, joining designers and web-focused UX engineers. The team is off to a great start building out a reusable and extensible component library and we need help making sure all of that effort and planning translates to the mobile development team as well.

Our goal is to make the mobile app experiences on iOS and Android *the* primary experience through which healthcare professionals discover, research, and communicate about their next opportunity.

THE TEAM

Vivian is small and rapidly growing. Our Design team is tasked with not only ensuring an incredible user experience for both healthcare providers and staffing recruiters alike, but also with imagining and visualizing just how the future of healthcare staffing should be. We work very closely with the Product and Engineering teams to iteratively improve our current offering while also placing some big bets on what the future of our industry could hold.

THE SKILL SET

  • Experience building reusable components in react-native
  • Extensive experience with mobile OS specific requirements and optimizations
  • Comfort with build scripts, app tooling, platform testing on both iOS and Android
  • Deep familiarity with expected user interface conventions on both iOS and Android
  • An eye for detail coupled with a passion for animation and building interfaces that “feel” as native as possible
  • Experience with accessibility and building accessible applications
  • Experience documenting components (ex. with a framework like storybook) a bonus
  • Experience maintaining an open-source project or a component library a bonus
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred

WITHIN ONE MONTH, YOU’LL...

  • have audited our existing mobile apps
  • work closely with our current UX engineers and learn about the existing design system on web
  • work closely with the React Native team to understand how they work
  • gain familiarity with all that Vivian does and one day aims to do
  • get to know the teams in San Francisco, Denver, Medellin, and beyond..

WITHIN THREE MONTHS, YOU’LL...

  • have committed the beginnings of a reusable component library on mobile that matches web
  • Identify pain points in the developer/designer handoff, and work closely with other UX engineers and design team members to architect new a component library for mobile use

WITHIN SIX MONTHS, YOU’LL...

  • have ported over the bulk of the react-native code to use the reusable components from the design system.
  • have helped the rest of the engineering team capitalize on the design-system-driven components.
  • have been responsible for measured improvements in load times, responsiveness, and visual polish

WITHIN TWELVE MONTHS, YOU’LL...

  • be an expert in the Vivian codebase
  • have cleaned up old, unused code in favor of flexible and reusable components that can adapt to new use cases as they arise
  • have contributed to entirely new features and lines of business that helped Vivian capitalize on the potential in the healthcare staffing market

I’m generally excited about anything we’re doing to get more users on the platform and placed in jobs considering the state of the world right now. Every application we facilitate is someone we’re activating to help the country face the ongoing crisis with COVID-19 in one way or another.
