Technical Lead

Xero's accounting partners are a hugely important part of our business. At the heart of each accounting practice is the systems that support and drive making the practice's clients successful through efficient and effective tax and financial compliance.
As the Engineering Team Lead, you will be responsible for the team of Denver based Xeros (moving to our new beautiful building in Downtown Denver/Platte Street location mid 2018!) that create value for our accountants by building and enhancing the tools that make the magic happen. You will provide oversight and drive success of our workpapers product, be the technical leader for architecture and positively set the culture for the engineering team. You will ensure the right things are built at the right time and through doing so you'll contribute to Xero achieving its goals.
You'll be responsible for guiding products throughout the execution cycle, focusing specifically on analyzing, positioning, promoting and tailoring our platform to make small businesses more effective.
What you'll do
- Lead and develop the Workpapers product roadmap working closely with customers and internal stakeholders to solve real-world customer problems and meet Xero's strategic objectives
- Ensure all software developed is of a robust and high quality nature meeting the requirements of the agreed specifications and complying with Xero's formal and informal development team standards and procedures
- Help ensure the Workpapers roadmap is data-informed, based on customer research, has clear objectives and KPIs, balances functional and nonfunctional work and is realistic
- Ensure the best technical implementation methods are executed within acceptable timeframes
- Be able to prioritize feature requests, enhancements and bug fixes into an achievable roadmap
- Contribute to the improvement of Xero's product leadership capability
- Work closely with your peers to deliver quality software that solves real customer problems
- Bridge technical and business worlds as you lead strong and productive relationships with stakeholders to understand and deliver on market needs and priorities, and evangelize our product strategy and roadmap
- Ensure there are the appropriate management and technical governance structures in place in the Denver office to support the growth of the development team
- Build and lead effective team of developers that continually improve and deliver value to our customers
- Cultivate a fun, rewarding, innovative and results-driven culture that lives and breathes our Xero values
What you'll bring with you
- 10+ years experience in an object oriented language such as Java or C#.
- 7+ years of experience architecting and working with software development projects at scale, with multiple streams and stakeholders
- 2+ years of experience in management of developers and forming high-performing teams
- Proven experience collaborating with a diverse stakeholder group
- Passionate about software development and building design-led software using a wide range of internet based technologies
- Solid track record of addressing customer needs through innovative use of technology
- Proven ability to influence outcomes at all levels
