The Ground Systems Engineer (GSE) will assume an integral role in the development, integration, test and operational engineering support of the DigitalGlobe Inventory and Production systems. The GSE will quickly become an expert in the Inventory and Production software system architecture and components and work to ensure highly reliable operations. This position will work closely with Mission Planners, Systems Engineers, Test Engineers, Software Developers, and Operations support teams to provide excellent operations support for the Inventory and Production systems. The Ground Systems Engineer will be available to provide on-call support on an as-needed basis.

 

 

Responsibilities    

  • Provide ground engineering support of operations for the DigitalGlobe ground system, including 24x7 on-call support
  • Provide key support to our low latency image processing systems running in a high performance computing environment
  • Deployment of Inventory and Production systems and software into the operational DigitalGlobe ground system, with high focus on minimizing downtime
  • Provide key support and take on responsibility for Inventory and Production systems including system architecture, requirements development, vendor selection, contractor management, equipment installation, performance verification, and troubleshooting / resolving all issues
  • Natural curiosity and ability to continually learn about our evolving complex system of systems
  • Desire to improve software systems and fix problems
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Basic Qualifications

  • 5 or more years’ of experience in operations and operations support
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, etc.)
  • Experience working with customers, vendors, subcontractors and/or non-engineering personnel
  • Proficient in a modern programming language (ex. Python, Ruby, Perl, Java)
  • Ability to support applications running in a LINUX and/or UNIX environment
  • Ability to hold and maintain a US Government clearance at Secret or higher
  • Ability to troubleshoot operational issues across multiple complex systems and propose and implement new solutions to improve operations
  • Strong skills in software design, development and troubleshooting

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 or more years’ experience preferred in operations and operations support
  • Understanding of Service Oriented and Microservice Architectures
  • Experience within a high performance computing environment
  • Knowledge of geospatial operations and photogrammetric principles
  • Experience with a multiple security enclave system, could computing and supporting service deployed through a CI/CD pipeline
