The role 

The Robotics Software Sustainment Engineer will report to the Director of Robotic Systems and support the sustainment of proprietary software and hardware products that automate manual tasks performed in busy freight shipping environments utilizing robotic manipulation and associated technologies. This is a mission critical team working in a dynamic environment building a robotics system from the ground up for rapid commercial deployment. This individual will be responsible for the sustainment of system performance at operational sites, both commercial deployments and systems operating at the Outrider Advanced Testing Facility. This position requires exceptional software development and engineering skills related to perception-driven robotic manipulation. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for software development that redefines large enterprise supply chains through demonstrated safe, error-free, and effective operational performance. 

Duties & responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and deploy software functionality for perception-driven robotic manipulation
  • Support product deployment, system maintenance, and the software development life cycle for deployed systems
  • Monitor and analyze performance and test data to understand trends and capture predictive indicators
  • Perform root cause failure analysis through understanding of system contextual usage, end user observation reporting, and system log file information
  • Optimize existing SW to maximize performance and reliability through data driven development targeting known and observed systemic issues and deficiencies to meet performance goals
  • Undertake business travel as necessary to support product development and customer deployments

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical/electronics engineering, and/or mechanical engineering
  • 1 - 3 years of C++ development post graduate degree professional experience or significant project based experience
  • Experience with ROS-based software development for robotic systems
  • Python experience – either professionally or via academic coursework
  • Demonstrated proficiency with robotic perception, manipulation systems (Robot arms), and/or manipulation motion planning
  • Working in a Linux environment and targeting embedded deployment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional analytical skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within a team

Ideal qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master's/Ph.D.) in computer science, computer engineering, electrical/electronics engineering, and/or mechanical engineering
  • Demonstrated proficiency with robotic perception, manipulation systems (Robot arms), and/or manipulation motion planning
  • Experience with robotics software engineering, autonomous vehicle systems, robotic perception, computer vision, and/or planning and controls
  • Demonstrated ability to manage an agile development backlog to plan and execute development activities in support of periodic release cycles
  • Previous usage of software engineering development support tools, such as CMake, the Atlassian Suite, and Docker
  • Experience with Python – either professionally or via academic coursework
  • Integration experience of common robotics libraries/frameworks such as MoveIt, OpenCV, the Point Cloud Library (PCL), and/or similar packages
  • Experience with socket programming (TCP, UDP) Implementation experience of Graphical User Interface (GUI) toolkits to generate engineering interfaces, dashboards, and tools

Compensation & benefits

  • Salary range of $110,000 - $135,000. For benefits, check this out!
