Software Engineer (JavaScript)

Hotel Engine seeks a JavaScript Engineer with strong abstract problem-solving abilities to join our rapidly growing team and company. You will work directly with the executive team and help shape the future of our company. Our development team is small, and we want to add a self-starter who truly enjoys software development and problem solving. We move quickly, release often, and have a passion for helping our clients. We encourage a healthy work-life balance that involves coming to work, doing a great job, and leaving it at the office. Your time off is yours.

In this position, you will be scoping, designing, and building new components and APIs within an Angular React, and Node.js environment. We are looking for an experienced JavaScript engineer who loves working on the front-end user experience and cares about API design. You will be expected to truly own our customer facing products, be self-driven and proactive about solving problems and improving the software for our users. We have a full-time designer but if you enjoy collaborating on UI/UX that’s a bonus.

This is an in-office position with an option to work from home part-time. As a small team we do best if everyone is on the same schedule and can collaborate face-to-face when needed. The right candidate wants to be go-to resource for their areas of responsibility, share what they know and learn from teammates.

Remote candidates are encouraged to apply if they can commit to being in Denver within four weeks after receiving an offer.

How We Work:

  • We ship code daily to our production, staging, and continuous integration environments. Test results, deployments, and production monitoring alerts are posted to Slack.
  • We use a Scrum/Kanban mix. Outside of daily standups and weekly sprint planning and retrospectives, we keep meetings to an absolute minimum to maximize development time.
  • We play to each team member's strengths. Whether you skew frontend or backend, you'll primarily be using the skills you're best at and enjoy the most but be expected to jump in anywhere as needed.
  • We currently all use Mac desktops for development but if you prefer Linux that's ok too.
  • We keep to a 40-hour work week and respect your time away from the office.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of front-end web development required.
  • Experience with front-end JavaScript frameworks (Angular/React preferred)
  • Experience with Node.js (Hapi preferred).
  • Experience with TDD, GitHub, Heroku, and Amazon AWS preferred.
  • Experience with React Native is a big plus.
  • Experience with RabbitMQ a plus.
  • Experience with high volume, publicly-facing production site strongly desired.
  • An eye for good UX strongly preferred. You will be working with a dedicated designer but anything you can bring to the table in that area is a plus. A passion for giving users a polished, highly usable experience is a must.
  • A desire to mentor junior and mid-level team members required.

What we provide:

  • Paid vacation, holidays and sick days
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance Plans
  • 401K and Supplemental insurance plan benefits
  • Paid gym membership and organic fruit delivery.
  • Free parking, free option for secure bike storage.
  • Discounted Wireless Service plans
  • Company sponsored events, holiday parties, and volunteer opportunities
  • A healthy work/life balance
