Candidate profile

As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) at DAT you will be responsible for automating tests for our web apps, APIs, and microservices.  This is focused primarily on end-to-end tests using Cucumber and Gherkin to define test scenarios and implementing step definitions using the TypeScript language.  Our SDETs are expected to be passionate about coding, but also understand fundamental software testing practices which will enable them to collaborate with their team and automate tests in the most efficient way possible.  QA cannot test everything, nor automate every test, so we expect our SDETs to help the team prioritize and deliver the high-value automation coverage within our CI/CD pipeline by laying the groundwork for and enabling the team to deliver a quality product.

As we build new microservices hosted in AWS, our automation tools and framework will evolve over the next 12 months, therefore we expect our SDETs to grow with it.  TypeScript is our primary programming language for automation.  SDETs also collaborate with Development to automate tests at lower test levels such as component and integration.

What You’ll Do

  • Automate integration and functional tests for Microservices and REST APIs
  • Implement automation using TypeScript languages
  • Write Gherkin test scenarios within Cucumber feature files
  • Learn, maintain, and improve existing automation framework(s)
  • Effectively troubleshoot and diagnose test failures
  • Adapt, collaborate, and communicate effectively within Agile Scrum team
  • Master microservices architecture and the various test levels associated with it
  • Work with team members to improve development processes and practices

The Skills You’ll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 5 years’ experience in software test automation
  • 2 years’ experience JavaScript, Ruby, Python, or TypeScript
  • Testing Microservices and APIs
  • Experience with Page Object Model in implementing automated tests
  • Take full responsibility of a task from concept to completion with minimal supervision
  • Embrace change and learning new technologies
  • Passion for investigating and determining root cause of test or product failures
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning

Bonus Skills

  • Postman API test tool
  • Experience with a BDD tool such as Cucumber
  • Experience implementing services and managing infrastructure in AWS using EC2, API Gateway, AppSync, DynamoDB, S3, etc.
