Software Developer

LENA is a game changer in early childhood. Research shows that back‐and‐forth interaction (conversational turns) between children and their adult caregivers in the earliest years is a key to school readiness and long‐term outcomes.  We integrate our patented “talk pedometer” technology into innovative programs to increase capacity of parents, caregivers, and educators in accelerating children’s language development, school readiness, and social‐emotional health.

The LENA System™ is the global standard for measuring talk in early childhood. The system is comprised of several components including a web application, an uploading application, a cloud processing system, a proprietary audio processing algorithm, and the LENA device.  The LENA System currently support 1000+ users and process over 50,000 recordings a year.  It leverages several technologies and technical stacks.  We continue to grow and are looking for a talented Software Developer specializing in web technologies to advance our products. 

We are looking for a Software Developer to enable and support growth who:

• Has demonstrated experience creating scalable, modular, secure, multi-tier systems, preferably delivering SaaS and/or business systems with significant concurrent user/session counts.
• Has a deep, thorough understanding of Java, JavaScript, Vue, ORM frameworks, and related web technologies, understands and implements their best practices, and knows their good and bad sides.
• Is “at home” using an Agile development process, unit testing, and build automation tools.
• Can communicate design/architecture ideas on paper, starting with abstraction and ending in detail.
• Has excellent and practical methods for managing code and being “right sized” in their solutions.
• Has 3 or more years of experience.
• Understands that we all have a lot to learn, and is thrilled to learn more and more.

We would like someone who also has experience in one or more of the following:

• Service oriented architectures and/or microservices
• SQL, stored procedures, and other relational database concepts
• Amazon Web Services (EC2, ECS, CloudFormation, S3)
• Cloud native design principles
• Electron and/or C# experience is a plus.
