Position Title

Software Developer II - VAX

KG Lewis is seeking a Software Developer experienced in VAX. The Software Developer will develop enterprise software applications used to support operations. They will review business requirements, create technical requirements, prepare time/cost estimates, create prototypes, develop applications and integration software, prepare test cases, test software and produce technical documentation. The Software Developer will understand underlying technologies in use, ensuring strong technical integration and quality assurance. They will collaborate with staff, other enterprise teams, departments and third party software integration partners to develop flexible, portable and reusable technical solutions. This is a temporary contract position.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the full software development cycle end-to-end, from design, implementation and testing to documentation, delivery and maintenance.
  • Translates business ideas, needs and functional requirements into scopes of work, technical requirements and solutions; develops time/cost estimates.
  • Designs and develops user interfaces, system interfaces, scripts, SQL queries, configuration and unit test cases; implements business rules.
  • Analyzes user requirements to identify system use cases; creates and maintains comprehensive documentation on functional and technical requirements.
  • Performs code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, functional testing and parallel testing.
  • Integrates, installs, configures and upgrades custom applications software.
  • Utilizes source control management tools to manage source code.
  • Confers with leadership to obtain direction on project tasks and information related to planning; regularly communicates project status.
  • Analyzes systems and processes; makes recommendations for changes or enhancements to improve quality of service.
  • Ensures compliance with policies, procedures and standards, as well as software industry best practices.
  • Collaborates with internal staff, external software developers, contractors and/or other vendors as needed.
  • Stays abreast of relevant technologies and their application.
  • Provides leadership and training to other staff as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Education, Experience, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience with software development in a corporate environment.
  • One (1) year of experience as a lead analyst or developer responsible for the work of others preferred.
  • Desired technical skills:
    • Windows, VAX
    • Fortran, C, VAX Assembler
    • RDBMS, INGRES, SQL, QUEL
  • Knowledge of VAX, VAX Assembler, INGRES, SQL, FORTRAN, C#
  • Must have extensive knowledge of programming languages and possess a high degree of technical competence in programming.
  • Knowledge of technical systems design and coding, to include file structures, access methods and database design.
  • Experience with agile and waterfall methodologies and use of source control management tools.
  • Ability to develop software; skill using modern software development languages and methods.
  • Ability to interpret, evaluate and implement complex technical information/documentation.
  • Solid understanding of the software development life cycle and development best practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of software design principles and guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of formatting; ability to process large data files using various types of scripts.
  • Ability to plan work assignments to effectively meet multiple deadlines, while managing conflicting priorities and demands.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to articulate user needs in technical and non-technical terms.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment; ability to work effectively with users, technical personnel and consultants to achieve stated objectives.
  • Thorough knowledge of effective problem solving techniques; ability to solve complex issues, communicating with senior staff as appropriate to ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications and project management software.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, drug screen and motor vehicle record check.
  • An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the education and experience requirements above.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License.
