Server Lead
About This Opportunity
As Rachio continues to grow and scale our capabilities, we need to start developing our engineering leaders of tomorrow. One of those opportunities is for someone to lead the Server team. This opportunity will help both Rachio and the individual who seizes this opportunity to develop stronger engineering leadership capabilities while still making a contribution to the codebase. This role will report to the Director of Engineering while leading 3 Engineers on the Server team to deliver strong value added features, and leverage cutting edge server technologies and architecture. These capabilities are key to keeping Rachio as the brand leader in our market and this role will be critical in achieving that outcome.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and implement end-to-end features in a microservice architecture to support new software services.
- Continue to evolve our backend infrastructure by incorporating Kubernetes, Docker, and App Mesh networking to fully realize a world class IoT platform.
- Contribute to the support of our back end platform, including dev ops, system and code debugging, and general system maintenance.
- Set goals for the team that provide clear expectations and align with business goals.
- Provide clear and impactful feedback to team member(s) to enable professional development.
- Align server goals and outcomes with other organizations needs such as Product Management, Consumer, and Customer Success.
- Collaborate with direct report(s) to create and implement personal development plans.
- Accurately monitor and communicate team project(s) status.
- Lead initiatives to constantly improve the team’s software process and culture.
Requirements and Skills
- 5+ years of experience in server/platform development
- Experience working with cross-functional teams such as Sales, Business Development and Product
- Solid programming fundamentals: common design patterns, data structures, object-oriented principles utilizing JVM languages (Java 7 and/or Java 8 preferred)
- Relational, NoSQL, and time series database experience
- Experience with continuous deployment, test automation, and test-driven development practices (JUnit and/or TestNG)
- Familiarity with dev ops and Amazon Web Services
- Experience building professional development plans, giving clear actionable feedback in support of development plan targets, and supporting reports in their career goals
- Effective and inspiring communication skills
- Code is clear, testable and maintainable.
- Flexibility and willingness to take on new challenges
- Solid understanding of data lake, data warehouse, and ETL ecosystems a plus.
- Ability to create clear plans with milestones based on requirements
- Ability to effectively lead by setting clear objectives and expectations
Compensation
- The salary range for this role is $135,000-$155,000

- Due to COVID-19, Rachio is currently fully remote. We are exploring our options for in-person engagement for 2021 and are open to this being a full-time remote position with some travel.
