The role

As a systems engineer at Outrider, you will report to the lead systems engineer. Your primary duties will include developing model-based systems engineering (MBSE) specifications for an autonomous trucking system targeting private-property applications at large logistics hubs. Your secondary duties will include facilitating the work of the functional safety engineering, field engineering, and system integration & test teams.

 

This position requires a very capable professional in systems engineering with an interdisciplinary engineering familiarity of vehicle engineering, robotics, computer science, and electrical hardware engineering. Exceptional problem-solving, project management, and strong interpersonal skills are a must. The successful candidate will lead the development of and be responsible for a significant portion of the systems engineering specification development for the Outrider System.

Duties and responsibilities

    • Develop specifications (documentation + requirements) for complex systems, electrical hardware and software
    • Develop functional behavior models for complex systems, electrical hardware and software
    • Elicit requirements with groups of stakeholders
    • Support architecture development of hardware and software systems
    • Contribute to functional safety engineering efforts
    • Assist in vehicle integration & testing, product deployment, and system maintenance tasks
    • Ensure that all engineering teams are “on the same page” and working in unison to meet company goals
    • Contribute generally to the growth and success of the company and the building of a vibrant culture focused on the responsible deployment of zero-emission autonomous vehicle technology

Required qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field
    • 3-4 years related experience with requirements gathering, requirements management, and systems engineering documentation development
    • Familiarity with Atlassian project management tools (Confluence, JIRA, Bitbucket)
    • Ability to perform basic data analysis and visualization in Python
    • Passion for systems engineering in the domain of complex systems, vehicle engineering and robotics
    • Demonstrated ability to facilitate engineering processes in areas outside of your primary expertise
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Exceptional analytical skills
    • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within a team

Ideal qualifications

    • Experience in working with MBSE tools (CORE, Genesys, etc.)
    • Familiarity with UML/SysML and associated modeling tools (Enterprise Architect, Modelio, etc.)
    • Understanding of vehicle network architectures and vehicle relevant network communication protocols
    • Familiarity with systems engineering supporting safety critical hardware and software development
    • Proficiency in Python and C++
    • Experience with ROS-based software development for robotic systems
    • Experience in working in a Linux environment and targeting embedded deployment
    • Experience with JIRAtest case management tools
