Senior Site Reliability Engineers - Remote

Reliability is a globally distributed team that is passionate about creating robust, resilient, and performant applications. You will contribute to our cross-functional environment by drawing on a combination of software engineering principles and operational knowledge to support our production systems. We’re looking for experienced Software Engineers who are interested in broadening their horizons using DevOps in a rapidly scaling environment.

As an Intermediate Engineer, you will make an impact by effectively collaborating with your peers and applying your engineering skills to understand and drive the development of products that improve the scalability and performance of the Xero platform.
As a Senior Engineer in the Reliability team, you will develop tools and provide expert guidance to teams, to help them define and manage their availability. You’ll help to build a culture focused on continually improving the reliability of Xero’s platform and applications.
What you'll do:
- Design and develop tools to promote SRE practices at Xero. You’ll have the ability to influence tech stack decisions and work with modern tools, think containerisation, micro services, etc.
- Engage with Xero’s product teams to understand and tackle their reliability challenges.
- Contribute to Xero's engineering standards and frameworks. Work closely with the Lead and Principal Engineers to apply standards to software and delivery processes.
- Deliver infrastructure in a production environment - Champion automation of delivery processes.
- Coach and support engineers to ensure all software is running as expected and proactively works to prevent customer facing problems.
What you'll bring with you:
- Minimum 2 years in a software / infrastructure engineering role.
- Understanding of reliability and DevOps practices. Demonstrable understanding of core reliability principles, such as observability, incident management and service level objectives.
- Ability to operate effectively in high severity incidents involving multiple teams or services
- Design and engineering experience delivering software designed for high scalability and availability.
- Strong technical and non-technical communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ideally, experience using and configuring monitoring solutions such as New Relic, Datadog, Sumo Logic or Splunk.
- Ideally, programming experience in JavaScript (React / ES6) and Python.
