As an information architect at Stack Overflow, you'll create and build products that directly impact the work and the lives of those developers.
In this particular role, you'll join our Community Products team. This is the team who works on the products that directly impact every developer around the world, including stackoverflow.com. This is a great opportunity to be the first information architect at Stack Overflow and create impact for all 100M users and the clients we serve.
We're looking for someone who is adept at planning and designing the structure of our digital space in a way that is meaningful and useful for our users. This individual will work alongside our product designers, systems designers, researchers, and product managers. This person will own how users search, navigate, and organize content on Stack Overflow.
Skills & Requirements
What you'll do:

  • Evolve Stack Overflow's content ecosystem
  • Work to reduce the amount of discoverability and fragmentation issues across our products
  • Optimize information to promote findability, accessibility, and usefulness, while accommodating technical and business requirements
  • Advocate that information on our products is clear and communicative
  • Consult and provide feedback to product and system designers on their work to ensure it meets the IA standards you establish with the team
  • Deliver appropriate assets, e.g., wireframes, spreadsheets, process diagrams, etc.
  • Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive team environment where design ideas and feedback are shared openly and with the best intentions
  • Work alongside research, community, product management, and design

What we need to see:

 

  • Have 5+ years of some combination of information architecture, UX design, and content strategy experience
  • Proven experience of solving complex information architecture problems
  • Experience in conducting, digesting, and applying user research
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High levels of organization and ability to work independently
    • (Desired) Experience working on a product in a two-sided marketplace
    • (Desired) Experience organizing taxonomy of user created content

What you might work on

 

 

  • Help define the content ecosystem as new content types are added to Stack Overflow
  • Redefine how profiles work through and with our different products including Stack Exchange, Stack Overflow, and Teams
  • Optimize Stack Overflow's navigation and search to align with how our users consume content

Also note:

 

 

  • We're a distributed, remote team and you'll be part of a work culture that emphasizes online & asynchronous communication with minimal meetings and ceremonies
  • We're generally very flexible on working hours, though we do ask everyone on the team to maintain an overlap with (at least) 10AM - 1PM US Eastern time
