Kenzie Academy (newly part of Southern New Hampshire University) is looking for a Senior Developer to join our fast-growing startup that’s reimagining education for the new century. You will report to the Director of Technology (they would be a VP at a startup) and provide technical leadership to the engineering team at Kenzie Studio.

About the Role: Join a small but rapidly growing organization developing a new learning experience for the learners of the future. You will play an essential role in developing and evolving technology and products that will transform the future of learning as we know it! We are seeking a full-stack engineer with solid experience designing and developing applications in modern web (with a heavy emphasis on React and Node) technology stacks. You will build web applications that enable educators and students to explore and visualize a student experience in a new era of education and learning. As a small team member, you will make fundamental contributions to our software design and implementation.

Location: Our first campus (and headquarters) is in Indianapolis, Indiana, but we will be opening other campuses soon. You can live anywhere but must be willing to travel about once a quarter to Kenzie campus locations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Build cool stuff. Our projects include a custom learning experience, operational support and tools for our various teams, and reporting.
  • Work with the Director of Technology to develop with code reusability in mind.
  • Develop scalable solutions using tools like Angular/Node.js, React, MySQL and other open stack frameworks.
  • Iterate on best practices to increase the quality & velocity of deployments.
  • Mentor the team. We’ve got a young team eager to learn and they are hungry to learn from people who’ve been in the space a while.
  • Contribute towards the timely completion of development tasks and small projects while applying company standards.
  • Continually learn and apply relevant software development practices, patterns, tools and technologies.
  • Increase efficiency, reduce waste wherever and whenever possible.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years in a developer role and 2+ years coaching junior developers
  • Experience working with cross-functional (some of them non-technical) teams, backed by the strong communication skills require to do so
  • Senior-level proficiency in Agile, JavaScript/Node.js
  • Strong understanding of AWS Cloud
  • Solid familiarity with Linux (tools, permissions, troubleshooting)
  • RESTful API Design & Implementation as well as scaling using Python or equivalent platform
  • Experience with setup, access, consumption and proficiency of relational and non-relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and DynamoDB
  • Solid container fundamentals (best practices, image creation & maintenance, Experience with container/orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Docker, etc.h)
  • Proficient in establishing CI/CD pipelines using AWS-native technologies(CodeCommit, CodeDepoly)
  • Working knowledge of various tools, open-source technologies
