The Security and Mission Assurance Strategic Support Unit provides discriminating support to the business to ensure success. We focus on threat identification, risk assessment, and mitigation while improving the efficiency of the business through effective governance and analysis of process, data and overall business knowledge.
Senior Engineer – Software Quality Assurance
Perform software and firmware assurance activities for engineering requirements, design, development, individual component level, sub-system level to system level test and integration, to sustainability for all phases, systems, programs and or products from less complicated, single focus activities to extremely complex and highly diverse activities. Requiring familiarity with national defense to commercial industry policies and standards.
What you'll do:
•Participate in requirement, design and code reviews, approving readiness and witnessing/monitoring testing, configuration control of documents and code, problem reporting & anomaly resolution, and change control.
•Audit, monitor, evaluate, and report on the software along with firmware subcontractor activities. Advise and consult to ensure proper flow down of Ball and contractual SQA requirements.
•Interface with software and firmware engineering, configuration management, process organizations and program management.
•Independent contributor to the development teams during all phases of the product lifecycle assessing the planning for and implementation of tailoring the process for compliance with good engineering practices along with adherence to the program statement of work.
•Tailor Program Execution Framework of defined processes to program contractual requirements, to ensure on-time deliveries and within budget constraints.
•Review documentation to ensure program requirements compliance, adherence to Ball Aerospace and Industry standards, risk mitigation, and completeness; tracking related action items and change requests with metrics.
•Participate in the peer review process; test oversight; configuration control oversight; change control oversight; and perform periodic assessments of the Ball and subcontractor product life-cycle activities.
•Present Software and Firmware product life-cycle status and adherence to process to program management and customers.
•Manage customer expectations as SQA Point-Of-Contact to report status, risks and risk mitigation.
•Support multiple Ball campuses for various programs and Product Center(s) support.
•Travel to subcontractor and customer sites.
•Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
•Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
•Perform other duties as necessary.
What you'll need:
•BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.
•Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
•Advanced understanding of industry and government specifications & standards and the requirements contained therein that guide the design, build, & test of software.
•Strong understanding of Software Quality Engineering (SQE) principles, tools, methods, and standards.
•Strong organizational, communication and written skills with the ability to focus on details are a must.
•Experience with the AS9100, SEI CMMI, ISO, Aerospace and NASA practices, IV&V, metrics; software safety and software reliability is highly desired.
•Successful participation in internal and external process assessments such as BSI, AS9100, etc.
•Understanding and experience with both Waterfall and Agile life cycle processes
•Experience with Subversion and JIRA/Atlassian tool sets desired
•Willingness to take initiative, ability to complete tasks in a timely manner, good interpersonal and project management skills, the ability to multi-task, plan, and represent SQA in cross-functional meetings and to subcontractors and customers.
Working Conditions:
•Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or clean room, outdoors or remote research environment.
•May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
•May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
•Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Compensation & Benefits
- HIRING SALARY RANGE: $115,000 - $145,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
