The Quality Assurance Engineer will be part of the enterprise quality assurance team within the Quality, Efficiency, and Sustainability and Transition (QUEST) organization at DigitalGlobe. The role ensures product quality and quality of production through systems and process validation and documentation; data and trend analysis; and coordinated cross-functional quality efforts.

The product quality engineer will be responsible for evaluating and providing technical expertise related to new product generation, validation of vendor products, product returns and customer inquiries. To ensure quality standards are consistently maintained throughout DigitalGlobe’s different production groups, he/she will perform quality control audits among the various quality control groups within DigitalGlobe. Through the use of metrics, the product quality engineer will facilitate and prioritize quality improvements for different lines of products. The product quality engineer will have a fluid and continuous communication with project managers, as well as, with the global, emerging and tailored, and basic products production groups. It is also a responsibility of this position to focus on DigitalGlobe’s customer needs and company expectations, in order to drive quality elements into new and existing products.

Assist with quality assurance projects focused on product, process, system and image validation, assessments of product specifications, product/image testing, test plan development, and assessment generation

  • Facilitate and prioritize product quality improvements
  • Review and make recommendations for improvements on existing products
  • Design and develop quality control workflows and test plans
  • Run appropriate quality assessments, identify and define potential image, product or process quality issues
  • Actively make appropriate recommendations or suggestions to drive quality improvements and set sampling profiles when needed
  • Collaborate daily with cross-functional internal and external team members, sometimes as project lead, and other times under other team member leadership

 

Contribute to quality assurance operations and workflows for all DigitalGlobe products, processes and services

  • Continuously improve the DigitalGlobe brand
  • Investigate customer feedback to drive improvements
  • Collect and compile statistical quality data
  • Analyze data to identify areas for improvement in the quality system
  • Prepare metrics and reports of analyzed information

Establish quality audits

  • Evaluate and analyze effectiveness of quality control departments through internal audits
  • Improve efficiency, scale, reliability, and mitigate operational risk
  • Systematically evaluate and assess products, process and systems through their lifecycle

 

Drive quality elements into new products

  • Define and implement quality standards for future products by developing test plans, leading evaluations, indenting quality issues and authoring test results
  • Write procedures and determine quality specifications for new and different product types
  • Advise, train, mentor, and learn from other team members on technical topics

 

Evaluate product returns

  • Gather requirements, determine scope, and assess customer concerns from a technical standpoint in relation to image, product, process and system quality issues
  • Analyze and maintain metrics’ database

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing, Geosciences, or related field. 
  • Experience with multi-spectral imagery, panchromatic imagery and geospatial data.
  • Experience working with satellite imagery, geospatial data from a quality perspective.
  • Experience working with Image Processing/Remote Sensing software tools such as ENVI, Erdas, Arc, PCI Geomatica, SocetGXP, SocetSet, RemoteView or others.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.

     

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience in Remote Science/Geospatial Industry.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black.
  • Experience with SAR imagery.
  • Strong visual acumen – ability to detect anomalies – detail oriented.
  • History of building positive relationships internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and improving quality processes.
