Spark is a venture-backed startup with the ambitious goal of disrupting a stale industry. We are looking for a Process Technician to join our 25 person (and growing) team. Our ideal candidate has experience as a manufacturing or process technician and experience in a start-up or pilot production environment.

At Spark, you will work as an integral part of our manufacturing team, developing and installing a manufacturing line, ensuring that it is running smoothly, and producing the fuel for our outdoor grill. You will also work with our Material Scientist to implement, test, adapt and perfect the manufacture of new proprietary charcoal recipes. The work will require a willingness to get your hands dirty and make an impact on a small team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the development, testing, and scale-up of our fuel production lines.
  • Perform equipment setup, operation, adjustments and minor preventative maintenance tasks to meet all standards for safety, quality and efficiency.
  • Run tests on all assemblies and equipment to test for safety and productivity before they are put into production.
  • Identify problems with processes, their potential solutions, and attempt to troubleshoot the issue by applying technical knowledge or experience.
  • Inspect and test finished products to ensure they conform with specifications.
  • Provide proactive feedback to the manufacturing team about process operations, results, and issues that arise.
  • Assist in developing, building, or testing new products, processes, or procedures.
  • Package finished products.
  • Help us inspire people to connect with others through the act of cooking outside more.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Technical degree is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, while also thriving in a collaborative small-team environment (Get stuff done mentality).
  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience with processing equipment.
  • Data acquisition, variation understanding, and reporting expertise.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong expertise in MS office or Google suites.
  • Experience in laboratory, production, field, or pilot testing.
  • Strong focus on creating a safe workplace.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & PERKS

  • Generous equity package in a venture-backed startup.
  • Market based compensation.
  • Comprehensive benefit options with a Spark contribution to health, vision, and dental insurance.
  • Flexible scheduling and unlimited PTO policies.
  • A fun team environment where we value spending time cooking together.
  • Plenty of room for professional growth as part of a small but growing team.

DISCUSSION

We’re applying engineering, design, technology, and, above all, fresh thinking to reimagine the modern grilling experience. Wait what? Grilling is an American pastime. It’s part of our social fabric. Why change something that’s not broken?

We believe parts of the experience and category are broken or stale. Even what’s working can be improved – but we can’t ruin what people already love. That’s a tough balance to strike. But we believe there’s a huge opportunity.

Spark combines the artisanship of the pre-gas era with the technology of today to give cooks the authenticity, taste and character of charcoal without all the hassle.
