We were born in AWS 10 years ago and built an intuitive application and service using Service Oriented Architecture. You will join us as we are migrating to Dockerized Microservices running on EKS and as we are halfway in our journey to Infrastructure as Code. At the same time, we passed $22 Billion in assets under management (AUM) for our digital wealth management service, and we recently launched Personal Capital Cash to start providing a better option for checking and savings accounts. It's an exciting time for us at Personal Capital and now, more than ever, we need help with our autonomous cross-functional teams to be more productive, and safeguard our security and legacy of trust with automated controls, and continuously and significantly improve scalability and observability of our systems. You will work to implement SRE best practices across all our microservices. You will work with developers, quality engineers, security engineers, data engineers, DBAs, and product managers to build Infrastructure, Security, and Operation as Code to deliver highly secure and scalable applications that delight users and engineers alike. You need to be comfortable with a broad portfolio in a fast-moving company and capable of executing operational improvements quickly and reliably.
As an SRE your goal is to maintain the uptime of our systems and environments. You will work with our autonomous teams to identify and eliminate single points of failure and other reliability issues between our applications.

  • Collaborate with developers and DBAs to continuously increase our system capacity.
  • Setup and manage our logging, metrics and alerting systems.
  • Ensure that all systems and services are monitored and train developers on how to use the tools effectively.
  • Implement changes using IAC to ensure the reproducibility of our services and their dependencies.
  • Support application, data, and security developers to contribute to IAC.
  • Help us achieve 100% IAC and the ability to bring up on-demand environments.
  • Drive the specification and measurement of service level indicators (SLI) to measure all critical service components and work with developers and product managers to establish the right service level objectives (SLO) for those indicators.
  • Be responsible for the high-availability of our production services and systems: Build pipelines to allow our autonomous teams to deploy their code to production independently, safely, and securely.
  • Automate server host and container patching and address security tickets.
  • You will also work with security engineers to enable them on our goal of Security as Code.
  • Be part of 24x7 on-call rotation for production systems and work with developers to improve their application on-call experience.
  • Debug production issues and perform root cause analysis for any failures. Provide support and systems guidance to developers to allow them to troubleshoot integration issues.
  • 5+ years experience in designing, building and operating large scale applications.
  • Strong understanding of AWS InfrastructureStrong scripting and automation skills.
  • Experience building, managing and deploying Docker-based Microservices.
  • Experience setting up deployment pipelines using Jenkins .
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Chef or Ansible.Experience with IAC tools Terraform or AWS Cloudformation.
  • Experience with secret management tools Vault, Chef Databags or AWS SSM.Experience with monitoring tools like Splunk, Datadog and AWS Cloudwatch.
  • Programming in at least one of Ruby, Python, Java.Experience with Kubernetes and Istio a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

The salary range below describes the minimum to maximum base salary range for this position in the location listed. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation offered may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
