Principal – EOIR Payload Calibration
This engineering position will focus on developing and implementing the calibration solutions necessary to achieve world class EO/IR remote sensor performance.
What you’ll do:
•Analyze data quality of optical payload and sub-system requirements and decompose as necessary to inform the related design, build, and test architecture and verification activities
•Lead, formulate and execute radiometric, spectral, and other calibration strategies to achieve the required mission data quality
•Develop remote sensing payload design using component hardware technologies, calibration sources, calibration techniques, and uncertainty analysis
•Create and manage physics-based calibration models and budgets
•Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (systems, optical, mechanical, electrical, software, test, etc.) in the planning and execution of calibration tasks
•Interface with and support the program’s calibration lead and/or chief system engineer
•Prepare and give presentations to peers, management and customers
•Mentor other engineers within the company facing related challenges
•Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
•Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
•Perform other duties as necessary.
What you’ll need:
•BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 12 or more years related experience.
•Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
•Degree in Physics or Optics preferred with related experience in either remote sensors, optics, detectors, light sources, or metrology.
•Previous optics/physics training with an emphasis on laboratory or other high accuracy measurement experience
•Expertise in remote sensing missions, payload design, component hardware technologies, calibration sources, calibration techniques, and uncertainty analysis
•Experience in EO/IR data analysis and algorithm development is desired
•Experience with Matlab or comparable software
•Superb written and presentation skills with experience presenting complex technical issues to independent experts and senior customer representatives
•Flexibility and capacity to work on multiple dynamic problems simultaneously
•Active TS/SCI, SSBI or Top-Secret clearance required
Working Conditions:
•Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
•May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
•May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
•Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
Verification that your current security clearance or government customer access meets the requirement for this position will be required.

Compensation & Benefits
- HIRING SALARY RANGE: $142,000 - $179,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
