Ibotta is looking for a Platform Engineer to join our Core Services squad. As part of the Core Services engineering squad, you will help build useful microservices & systems for the engineering organization. We're looking for a self-motivated engineer who has a real passion for building and scaling infrastructure using technologies such as JavaScript, Kotlin/Java and Spring, Redis, and DynamoDB. Every engineer has input into our product process and will have a real impact as part of a small, nimble team.

Here is what you’ll be doing:

  • Work with a cross-functional team to design and develop the systems and services that other engineers in the company can build on.
  • Use Amazon’s AWS infrastructure and advanced services daily
  • Identify and fix performance bottlenecks
  • Work with big data sets and thousands of events a minute.
  • Write tests and perform code reviews to ensure that we're shipping reliable, readable, and reusable code
  • Ship production code daily
  • Research and implement technology solutions for reliable, scalable, high-performing services

Here is what we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field and 2+ years of experience in software development
  • We work with Kotlin, Java, and JavaScript on this team the most, but we value people who can learn new languages and provide diverse perspectives on design and implementation.
  • Extensive knowledge of SQL and NoSQL type databases like MySQL, Aurora, DynamoDB, and Redis is valuable, but knowing when to use each is far more important.
  • You’re comfortable with Unix-like operating systems.
  • You know how to use Git. You still consult the internet for more advanced topics but you can get around just fine.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented software design, development, and architectural principles
  • Familiarity with microservice architectures
  • You have big opinions on how we should work but they’re loosely held. You’re receptive to other points of views and

An Insider's view of Ibotta

What’s the vibe like in the office?

The best part about Ibotta is the people that work here. It's humbling to be able to work with such talented and experienced team members who are all working towards a collective mission. I've been able to learn so much from my colleagues both on a professional and personal level, and they are 100% the reason that I enjoy coming into work everyday.

Prachi

Senior Account Executive, Business Development

How do you collaborate with other teams in the company?

For general questions or blockers, the engineering community is incredibly active and supportive on specialized Slack channels to get engineers unblocked. On project development cycles, my Project Manager sets meetings with relevant stakeholders as needed for planning and ongoing feedback cycles.

Becca

Platform Engineer

How has your career grown since starting at the company?

I started Ibotta as a mid-level software engineer with a few years of experience; within two years I had been promoted to a Senior Engineer and was recently promoted to Staff Engineer at the beginning of 2020. I’ve learned so much about software development and am excited to now be in a position responsible for helping to spread that knowledge.

Alex

Software Engineer/Browser Extension

How do you make yourself accessible to the rest of the team?

Weekly 1:1s with all of my direct reports and minimum monthly coffee/lunch/walk with anyone who is indirect. We also leverage "Donut" (an app through Slack) across the Marketing team. This promotes rapport building and open conversations.

Cody

Vice President of Growth Marketing

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

Ibotta believes that in order to feel motivated and inspired, you must have an opportunity to find fulfillment and satisfaction in your personal life.
