The Opportunity

This is your chance to build world-class mobile apps at a high-impact company, early in our astronomical growth trajectory. Here your innovative coding and architecture will have significant social benefits, as you enhance products and platforms that enable people to live healthier, happier lives.

As Mobile Engineer you’ll be delivering Android and iOS app material design, responsive interaction, and powerful mobile UX, helping our members navigate and simplify their health challenges. Our apps are always evolving, with new content and features, and new platforms and integrations key to our goals. We’re even looking into new technology spaces with wearables and health-focused hardware integrations!

If you’re our ideal candidate, you have 2-4 years of hands-on experience with native mobile apps for the consumer and/or medical space. In this role you’ll work collaboratively with other mobile engineers and product design experts in our Denver office, located in lower downtown within walking distance to Coors Field, Union Station, and the 16th Street Mall. If you’re a guru of iOS but know nothing of Android, or a robot at heart and never tasted fruit—perfect! Cross-platform experience is a bonus, but not a must. However, it’s critical that you have a passion for learning both sides. You must also be able to balance delivery needs against design intent, and understand that product is more valuable in the hands of users than as a design on paper.

Just an FYI, you’ll fit right in here if you love witty banter and kombucha and you bring impact, passion, curiosity, creativity and analytical insight to your work. We foster a learning environment and welcome ambition and innovation! If you want your work to mean something and you think phones/tablets are the future of all things tech, we’d love to talk with you!

Responsibilities

  • Code our new native mobile apps (Android and iOS)
  • Architect brand new features for both platforms
  • Adopt, adapt, and advance the core value of the Livongo experience, through material design, responsive interaction, and powerful mobile UX
  • Work closely with Design to bring a user-first experience to the masses (including awesome Lottie animations)
  • Implement our spiffy designs in Interface Builder, XML, CALayers, drawables, etc.
  • Work with custom fonts, Lottie animations, activity transitions, multi-device support, localization adjustment, the works (no star wipes though ☹ )
  • Fix bugs in a core service layer or a UI/implementation on iOS/Android
  • Write Unit Tests, UI Tests, and Integration Tests to help our QA Team, and then work through all manner of acceptance criteria, kickbacks, and crazy edge cases
  • Demolish said edge cases with WCAG 2.0 criteria like system font adjustments, Navigator/Voice-Over mode, high contrast, and every imaginable way to use that smart device
  • Frequently communicate updates to stakeholders and deliver projects on-time
  • Respect and uphold platform-specific ideology (both platforms have equal say and the app should be a good iOS app to iOS users and a good Android app to Android users; no exceptions!)

Candidate Profile

  • 2-3+ years of native mobile development (Android in Java/Kotlin or iOS in Swift/Objective-C) or experience in native Xamarin development (C# in Xamarin.Android and Xamarin.iOS—sorry, we’re not using Xamarin.Forms)
  • A strong foundation in OOP principles and design patterns (data structures, algorithms, polymorphism, observers, composition, yadda yadda)
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and collaboration skills
  • The presentation skills to effectively communicate how your designs solve specific business problems
  • A passion for building accessible iOS and Android apps that are visually delightful and easy to use
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-moving start-up culture with aggressive product development and launch plans
  • A love for solving new user experience challenges and an undying passion to do right by the user in terms of experience and platform expectations
  • A thoughtful and professional reaction to feedback and critiques during code reviews and architecture discussions
  • The ability to innovate in meaningful ways
  • A willingness to learn the “other side” and become capable in both Android and iOS and eventually own features and implementations on both platforms

Impress us even more:

  • Finesse with reverse engineering endpoints and services
  • Prior experience with C#, ideally in a Xamarin-based native mobile application environment
  • Experience working with adaptive and fluid native apps (size classes, xdp folders, multi-resolution assets, rotation layouts, etc.)
  • Experience within, or affinity for the mental health services field
