Where you fit in:

 As an early member of a fast growing startup, you will lead the development of the mechanical and industrial design for Parsyl’s growing family of sensing and gateway devices. You are a good fit for this position if you have experience designing and building large scale, small form factor electronics and have a keen eye for detail.

What you’ll get to work on:

  • Responsible for Solidworks design, verifying and validating activities of products from concept to product launch and through the sustaining phase.
  • Work with small, diverse team to develop detailed mechanical component and system designs to optimize and continually develop new products or improve existing Parsyl devices.
  • Work collaboratively with product, engineering, manufacturing and other stakeholders to understand device requirements.
  • Design and conduct experiments to validate product performance, including design and prototyping of concepts for rapid testing and verification.
  • Work with the Director of Manufacturing to coordinate with overseas manufacturing partners from tooling kick-off through production release.
  • Collaborate with firmware and electrical engineers to finalize component and system designs.
  • Mechanical design and documentation of electronic devices including (but not limited to):
    • IPXX rating, Injection-molded plastics, aluminum extrusions, electrical-mechanical interfaces, sheet metal and sheet metal painting techniques (powder coat and other), mylar overlays with adhesives, generating and using 3D mechanical modeling techniques and simulation tools.
    • Material selection for all mechanical and electrical-mechanical parts. 
    • Mechanical design and documentation for system regulatory compliance. 
    • Mechanical design and documentation for manufacturing assembly processes (DFM).
    • As deemed necessary or required, mechanical validation testing plan and as including but not limited to thermal cycling, drop testing, and vibration testing.
    • Developing labor and materials budgets, and identifying facility/test equipment needs. 
    • Work with ODM/JDM/CM Partners through product RFQs, onboarding, audits, on going development, and on DFM reviews and value engineering efforts to improve quality, reduce cost and deliver on time.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in engineering
  • Worked on small form factor electronics
  • Developed high IP-rated devices (IP65+), especially for products that contain sensors (especially temperature and humidity)
  • Experience designing parts and assemblies for injection molding
  • Must have experience working with team members with electrical engineering and software development expertise and possess (or be capable of rapidly developing) the skills to function in a small project leadership role 
  • Broad use and application of mechanical engineering principles, theories, concepts and techniques to solve problems
  • Record of contributing to development of new designs and/or processes at all stages, from concept creation through launched product
  • Experience with DFM and working with contract manufacturers from design through manufacturing
  • Experience designing and conducting experiments to validate product performance, including designing and prototyping concepts for rapid verification
  • Well organized, strong problem-solving skills, team-building mentality, customer-first attitude
  • Self-starter in identifying what is critical to the success of a project
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills

 Bonus if you also have:

  • Interest and experience in contributing to the industrial design of electronics
  • Experience with wireless IoT devices
  • Experience building for low temperature environments
