Role Overview 

We are seeking a Mass Properties Specialist to join our team. You will be responsible for developing and managing the mass properties for Overture as well as developing the mass properties database at Boom Supersonic. Additionally, you will be a part of Boom’s world class team of engineers.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work hand-in-hand with the Mass Properties Principle Engineer, the Integrated Product Team, Chief Engineer, and Program Leadership to architect a world class approach to developing and managing the mass properties of Overture and future products.
  • Contribute and guide the aircraft trade studies to find the right solution for Overture
  • Develop and track the mass properties that will be the basis for loads development, and performance and cost evaluation.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering required
  • 7+ years experience on at least one aircraft program from initial concept through flight and certification 
  • Experience in mass properties database development (programming and content)
  • Professional experience interacting with a Software Engineering team
  • Fundamental understanding of the weight control process in a development program Experience with SAWE RP7 (Mass Prop Management and Control for Military Aircraft) and RP8 (Weight and Balance Data Reporting Forms for Aircraft)
  • Ability to estimate, calculate, and verify mass properties of components and assemblies in support of trade studies and drawing release.
  • Familiarity with inertia estimation in support of aircraft loads development
  • Experience in supplier weight control
  • Experience in composite structure
  • Part 23 or 25 certification familiarity (part 25 preferred)
  • Fundamental understanding of key technical disciplines (configuration, structures, aero, systems, propulsion, structures, software/avionics, interiors, & flight test, manufacturing)
  • Self-starter who can multitask with minimal oversight
  • Excellent problem-solving leadership skills; can lead a team through solving hard, complex, ambiguous technical problems
  • Persuasive—must be able to establish support of internal and external parties alike
  • Strong communication skills, the ability to interface effectively with different groups internally and externally

It would be great if you had:

  • Experience with relational database schema design and queries, PostgreSQL preferred
  • Web frontend development exposure (vue.js, vuex, responsive CSS, calling APIs) Experience with Product Life Cycle software system management (DOORS, TeamCenter, Jama, 3DS, etc.) & CAD (Catia, ProE, etc.)
  • Experience in manufacturing weight control 
  • Experience in developing aircraft weight & balance manuals
  • Experience in supersonic aircraft

Compensation:

The Base Salary Range for this position is $120,000-$168,000 and represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, long term incentives/equity, an open PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
