Manufacturing Engineer Senior – Work Cell Lead
At the Ball Aerospace Manufacturing Center (AMC) location in Westminster, CO, we develop and manufacture state of the art RF & sensor technologies that are integrated onto tactical missile and aircraft platforms. If you’d like to join our rapidly growing operations team in a mission to help the warfighter, this could be an ideal role for you. The Manufacturing Engineering Program Lead is responsible for the manufacturing execution of cutting-edge RF components and systems in a high mix, low volume environment. This position assumes complete responsibility and accountability for quality, schedule, manufacturing efficiency, and risk management for assigned programs.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead your program execution team with a resolute commitment to human safety first, 100% quality second, and 100% on-time delivery third while continuously driving YoY cost reductions.
- Manage the utilization of key performance metrics to drive performance for the program and manufacturing value stream.
- Advance the organizations problem solving focus and capability through the utilization of A3 and KATA Coaching.
- Develop and foster strong relationships with mission area leadership (the internal customers) to identify their value proposition and develop a strategy to achieve it.
- Lead and manage a direct staff of manufacturing engineers and production supervisors through inspirational leadership.
- Lead the organization with a Lean coaching approach (respect for people, “go and see” behavior, put problems first, and continuously intensify collaboration).
- Continuously increase of the manufacturing process velocity through the application of Lean Manufacturing methods, tools, and principles.
- Lead the program execution team to identify structural processes and/or systems that interrupt value creating activities. Conceptualize and drive countermeasures that improve flow of both knowledge and hardware.
- Maintain a prioritized focus on human and hardware safety through implementation of Human Error Management principles.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Quality Business System (QBS) processes, AS9100, and government DFAR regulations, support related compliance audits.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
What You’ll Need:
- BS/BA degree or higher in Engineering or a related field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- Experience developing and maintaining strong internal customer relationships by establishing a deep understanding of their environment and generating a clear understanding of the challenges they face.
- Hands-on experience in Lean Manufacturing implementation focused on people, processes, and tools.
- A creative yet formal approach to problem solving and an appetite for experimentation.
- An innate mentality that seeks dynamic gains over static optimizations.
- A strong focus on the horizontal flow of value across several supporting organizations.
- Demonstrated experience successfully leading complex operational organizations.
- Demonstrated aptitude for collaboration, recognition of individuals strengths and areas for improvement, and an ability to manage misalignment between individuals and/or groups.
- Experience mentoring, training, and staffing employees with a strong commitment to improving organizational diversity and inclusion.
- Experience of implementation and sustainment of ISO 9001 and AS9100 certification.
- Proven and exceptional ability to collaborate and partner across business functions.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
- Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
A current DoD clearance and/or SCI access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position, however applicant must be willing and eligible for submission within 60-90 days after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access. Compensation & Benefits:
- HIRING SALARY RANGE: $126,500 - $159,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
