What You'll Do:

In your consumer life, apps like Venmo and Zelle are making easy to pay friends and family. Unfortunately, it's extraordinarily difficult for businesses to pay other businesses for services and suppliers. That’s why paper checks remain the dominant form of payment between businesses in the US and account for over $10 trillion of spend. It's inefficient and slow, but fortunately Billtrust launched a solution to digitize business-to-business payments once and for all - the Business Payments Network.

Billtrust is seeking a Development Manager to lead a group of engineers across multiple Agile teams tasked with designing, scaling and bringing to market our next-generation Business Payments Network (BPN) product. You will provide technical guidance, mentoring, and performance management to this group, while collaborating closely with Product, Quality Engineering & DevOps. You will also be responsible for contributing to product architecture, while evolving our development organization in areas such as unit testing, microservices, CI/CD and software performance.

  • Guide, coach, and advocate for teams of developers leveraging Agile/Scrum techniques, acting as an advisor to the team to meet deliverables and/or resolve impediments
  • Manage team member performance
  • Collaborate with other Agile product teams to identify dependencies and synchronize efforts
  • Review code & assist with release management
  • Drive unit test automation and TDD techniques
  • Design performant software with a DevOps mindset that will scale as our volumes increase
  • Profile and measure software quality and performance as we continually improve our code base

What You'll Bring to the Team:

  • An attitude where no technical challenge is too great
  • Ability to provide direction and mentoring to experienced software development teams utilizing Agile techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage in a way that results in highly-engaged teams
  • 7+ years of demonstrated success delivering SaaS and/or commercial software products
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate cross-functionally, and work well with distributed teams in order to drive work forward and remove impediments
  • Demonstrated experience building responsive web applications, preferably with Angular
  • Demonstrated experience designing REST APIs using a microservices architecture, preferably using C#/.Net and/or Node.js for implementation
  • A mindset towards quality and demonstrated knowledge of testable application design principles
  • Solid understanding of relational and non-relational databases
  • Experience with some of the following preferred: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Jenkins, Git/GitLab, Docker, Nginx, Terraform, event-driven architecture, queuing
  • An understanding of Agile/Scrum techniques
  • Experience in a SaaS, software, product-centric or payments business nice-to-have
  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
