Position Description
The Systems Analyst II Linux/Unix employees in this role function as information technology (IT) professionals, serving as technical experts who participate in, or oversee, a variety of analytical and technical assignments. Assignments require problem diagnosis, solution development, technical documentation, implementation, ongoing administration, support and maintenance across a variety of hardware, software, and network products within Zayo’s global information technology environment. This is a critical role for providing 24x7 availability to our corporate infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Outage/Impairment Analysis - Assist with identifying causes of impairments, outages or customer impacting issues and work to identify how to recover systems as quickly as possible.
Troubleshooting - Based on tickets and/or alarms, analyze trouble indicators that are causing or may lead to instability and work to resolve them.
MACD - Modify, Add, Change or Delete new services, functions based on defined roles and procedures.
New Setup - Work on builds of new locations, servers, infrastructure, etc. following defined processes and procedures
Assigned Tickets/Projects - Work on tickets and specific projects that have been assigned
Respond to and resolve help desk escalations based on Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
Complete related work orders or request-based tasks based on SOP
Document - Author and utilize technical documentation as a resource to resolve issues in areas with less expertise.
Develop and maintain a basic understanding of diagnostic tools.
Complete systems maintenance activities following SOP, such as patching, health checks, operating system updates, validating changes and maintaining operational and configuration standards. Report anomalies to senior staff for resolution.
Understand and adhere to Zayo’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls.
Identify risk-related issues requiring escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the Zayo brand.
Maintain Zayo’s internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Share rotational on-call after hours support responsibilities with the team.
Self-direction is required and must be fostered within the team. You will be required to understand complex systems and the interactions with other complex systems as well as infrastructure architecture competencies we will grow within the team.
You will work with your team to develop long-range strategies based on infrastructure technical trends and business forecasts. The Technology team commitment to leadership means you will strive to understand and adhere to technology/business best practices and adapt the program as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Working knowledge of infrastructure architecture, data centers, servers, and networks
Working knowledge of Linux operating systems, particularly Red Hat / CentOS and Debian / Ubuntu
Working knowledge of UNIX operating systems, particularly Solaris, HP-UX
Working knowledge and skills to install, configure, secure, monitor, and maintain such servers
Able to develop and maintain scripts written in Bash, Perl, Python, YML, etc. to automate operations
Familiarity with virtual machines, and VMware
Familiarity with basic server hardware maintenance
Flexible and reliable worker, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
Working knowledge of emerging technologies, such as
container and microservice architectures: such as Docker and related tools
orchestration, automation and management tools, such as Kubernetes / OpenShift, Ansible / AWX, etc
cloud computing providers such as AWS, Azure - A plus, but not required
Strong knowledge of Security, including
- Knowledgeable of the security risks applicable to a global corporate environment
- Familiar with implementing operating system hardening procedures for Linux/UNIX
Familiar with developing and implementing access and privilege management controls - A plus, but not required
Embraces an approach which considers security first and always throughout all duties
Promote a strong team culture of security, working closely with dedicated systems analysts
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field or years of related experience equivalent to a degree
Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in a corporate / mission-critical environment
Linux certification(s) a plus, such as:
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
CompTIA Linux+
Linux Professional Institute LPIC-1
LFCS (Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator)

Base salary range: $71,719-$78,113
