POSITION SUMMARY
As a Junior Software Engineer, you will utilize your coding and testing skills to ensure the quality and stability of Payfone’s suite of mobile identity certainty APIs. Learning from senior developers while leveraging your passion for excellence, you will help deliver carefully planned software solutions as part of a scalable platform. This is a hands-on development role where you will demonstrate your skills, confidence, and willingness to participate in a team dedicated to delivering solutions that delight our customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of the Development team, the Junior Software Engineer is expected to:
Collaborate with the Scrum team and Product Owners to fully understand user stories, clarify acceptance criteria, and provide story points and task estimates.
Evaluate software applications from an end-user perspective to affirm the value of the features and functions that will be delivered.
Write well-designed, testable, maintainable, efficient code.
Align with and support established software coding standards (code reviews, continuous integration, automated testing), the Scrum framework, and Agile principles.
Coordinate with team members to determine root cause of defects.
Actively participate in software releases and assist Operations with Production system support.
Stay current with the latest advancements in software development, new and upcoming technologies, industry trends, and strive to continually improve personal technical and analytical skills.
Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or a related discipline or demonstrable equivalent experience.
Minimum 1 to 3 years of hands-on software development experience (Java, Python).
Knowledge of Java internals (threading, transaction management, introspection).
Experience with JMA, Spring, and Swagger (OpenAPI) frameworks.
Experience with a variety of test tools such as Postman, JMeter.
Experience with public cloud infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience with the Atlassian suite of products (JIRA, Confluence) and the Microsoft suite of products
(Windows 7, Windows 10, Office, Outlook).Excellent active listening skills, strong communication skills, confident presentation demeanor, and interpersonal skills with the ability to foster and maintain relationships.
Enthusiastic investigative and problem-solving skills, including the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot application issues.
Independent worker who can balance planned sprint work with ad-hoc requests from teammates.
COMPENSATION
A compensation package composed of a base salary and equity will be structured to attract a uniquely qualified candidate. Excellent health benefits are included. No sponsorship will be provided.
