Java Engineer

The ideal candidate will have at least 7 years experience modeling data, writing high quality Java code, and performance tuning the system to optimized the trade-offs between object-oriented code and set-oriented SQL data.  We are open to candidates interested in contract or full-time employment.

Requirements:

• At least 5 years experience writing Java code in a data-intensive environment

• Expert Java development skills

• Expert SQL database skills with experience modeling data, designing and performing Extract/Transform/Load operations, and performance tuning operational databases

• Experience with any of the major databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL

• BS or higher in Computer Science, or equivalent

Strongly preferred skills:

• Postgres analysis and OLTP experience

• Experience with J2EE

• Solid understanding of the realm where coding and data modeling and tuning intersect - you’ve written Java code against databases and understand what is best done in code and when to use SQL for the heavy lifting

Nice to Have

• Amazon Web Service experience, especially RDS
