Integration & Test Engineer II – Mechanisms and Test Scripts / Test Software

We're seeking an action-oriented engineer with intellectual curiosity who is excited challenge themself testing spaceflight hardware. The position is with the team testing the flight mechanisms of both our Payload and Space Vehicle programs. The software scripts and software tools used with the electrical ground support equipment to automate flight hardware testing will be a particular focus of this position, but it will also require test procedure writing, test execution, and multiple other test engineering responsibilities.


As an Engineer II, you will work closely with, and be mentored by, experts in the field. You may have the opportunity to lead significant test activities on complex, critical program mechanisms and to lead a small to mid-size team. If you enjoy Legos, writing code for your drone, playing with Linux builds, and have the skills to rebuild the hyperdrive of the Millennium Falcon, then this might be a good position for you.


What You'll Do:


  • Work in a fast-paced team environment assisting to integrate and test spaceflight hardware.
  • Work in cleanroom and lab environments to verify the hardware meets requirements and characterize / calibrate its performance.
  • Write, review, update, and execute test procedures and test scripts.
  • Work with the ground systems, simulators, flight software, and non-flight software teams to implement efficient and effective test scripts.
  • Gain a detailed understanding of spacecraft mechanisms and their control electronics.
  • Support the mechanisms at the payload and space vehicle levels of integration.
  • Prepare technical documentation and give presentations to peers and management.
  • Collaborate with system and subsystem engineers, mission assurance, technicians, and other program personnel.
  • Use test and measurement equipment to test and troubleshoot spaceflight hardware.
  • Maintain test logs and generate test reports.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


What You’ll Need:


  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 5 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics is preferred.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting mechanisms, electro-mechanical systems, or control systems is desired.
  • Strong experience with scripting and programming.
  • Experience with software configuration management systems.
  • Experience with spacecraft command and control systems, simulators, software test benches and other electrical ground support equipment is preferable.
  • Good written and oral communication skills a must.
  • A strong attention to detail while appreciating the bigger picture of the complex and ambitious projects that we take on at Ball.
  • A desire to work hands-on with critical spaceflight hardware.
  • Knowledge and experience using test automation applications and tools such as LabVIEW is desirable.
  • Experience with Linux and real-time operating systems is desired.
  • Candidate should have good interpersonal skills and work well in a team environment.
  • Candidate should be proficient in MS Office tools.
  • Space or military experience highly desired, but not required.


Working Conditions:

  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
  • Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Compensation & Benefits:


  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $99,500 - $123,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
