Infrastructure Engineer - Platform Engineering
Xero is a beautiful, easy-to-use platform that helps small businesses and their accounting and bookkeeping advisors grow and thrive.
At Xero, our purpose is to make life better for people in small business, their advisors, and communities around the world. This purpose sits at the centre of everything we do. We support our people to do the best work of their lives so that they can help small businesses succeed through better tools, information and connections. Because when they succeed they make a difference, and when millions of small businesses are making a difference, the world is a more beautiful place.
Xero’s Platform Engineering group is looking for a talented Infrastructure Engineer to join the crew.
We build critical applications and services consumed throughout Xero globally; we’re central to keeping Xero online. This is a fantastic opportunity to step up - we deal with infrastructure at scale, and there are very few roles in New Zealand like it.
About the team:
We’re a team that enjoys putting on a lot of different hats and operating on a model of high ownership. This means everyone on the team helps to build, support, monitor, and troubleshoot our applications in production.
We pride ourselves on our emphasis on performance and scalability, our desire to innovate and improve the way we work, and our commitment to quality.
How you'll make an impact:
You’ll help us scale to meet the demands of nearly three million global customers and have a voice in deciding the tools and approaches we use. At Xero, continuous improvement is something we focus on each and every day. We’re all about rapid release cycles, continuous integration and delivery.
The infrastructure engineer role partners with engineering teams as the champions of good operational practices and the engineer experience. You'll use creative problem solving to empower teams by making the process of delivering and supporting apps as smooth and repeatable as possible.
We’re looking for someone who has a passion for technology and continuous improvement, and enjoys a collaborative approach to software development. We also value a growth mindset - wherever you are at in your career, sharing knowledge and being open to having it shared with you is vital.
It would be great for you to have experience with relevant technologies used throughout the software development lifecycle. Source control systems (Git), build systems (such as TeamCity or Jenkins), deployment tooling (including AWS CodeDeploy, Octopus Deploy, etc) and monitoring tools (like Cloudwatch and New Relic).
Experience you'll bring with you:
- Automating infrastructure in a cloud environment, preferably Amazon Web Services
- Managing cloud-based production workloads at scale using infrastructure-as-code
- Building and deploying containerised applications
- Agile software development methodology and tooling
- Continuous integration and deployment practices
- Intellectually curious with strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Motivated to work as part of a team
